Cape Lookout Fishing Report

We started off in Davis by taking the Davis Ferry Service over to the Core Banks. For 2 adults, 2 kids, and my truck, it was $117 round  trip. It's a short 45 minute ride and once on the island, we decided to head up to Drum Inlet. We fished with mullet,  but only manage to reel in a large sting ray.

In the afternoon, we fished the point and managed to catch a couple of small flounder using Berkley Gulp shrimp in the New Penny color.  I talked with a lady that had fished there all morning and had caught 9 flounder on a simple jig with white grub. All were too small and were released.

I caught about 15 nice mullet in a small cut through the  point. All were in the 10 - 12 inch range. But, never got a bite on mullet live, or cut.

Sunday we fished the point in the morning again and did not get any bites. Talked with a man that had fished there at night and managed to catch a drum on a popper when he could not get them to bite mullet.

In the afternoon we fished the jetty on the south side of the island. We watched a couple guys in a boat catch a few flounder, but once again they were all too small. I found a small school of glass minnows and managed to catch a few with my cast net, despite most going through the larger diameter netting. Had several  bites but all were picked off quickly and only caught a pin fish.

It was nice weather both days, but the fish just weren't biting well. We did not see anyone catch anything of size, nor even heard rumors that anyone had much luck.  I would definitely go back there  to fish, but hope the bite is better next time.
