The Energy was wrecked on 29 Feb 1887 in the Clarence River, between north Bluff and Woody Head, due to missed stays, while it was travelling from the port of Melbourne to Clarence River. It was mastered by Samual Richard Savory. After the wrecking, the wreck was sold by action to James Ellis by T. Bawden.

The vessel was a wooden carvel schooner of 185 gross tons and 35.29m in length. It was built in 1880 in the Nambuccra River port, New South Wales, by John Stuart.
