Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We had some great weather the last few days of October while fishing in Islamorada. Today we entered the month of November and we have our first strong cold front coming through this afternoon/evening. We really had a mixed bag of fish the last week here while offshore fishing in Islamorada. The best action has been on the reef and wrecks. The bottom fishing has been very consistent on both the patch reefs (shallow reef areas in 20 - 30' of water) and the main reef line in 50 - 90' of water. The yellowtail snapper bite has been good, with fish of all sizes. Some are just keepers in the 12 - 14'' range, but there some some nicer ones on the live pilchards in the 16" - 22" range as well. In addition the yellowtails there been some mangrove snappers and quite a few mutton snappers. The Miss Islamorada Party boat had 20 Keeper mutton snappers one day! The grouper bite has been fair, but I think it they will turn on here this week with this cold front blowing through. The last 2 days we saw some sailfish caught amongst the fleet as well. They are all catch and release, but multiple boats released sails each day, and some had a couple releases. The sailfish bite should only get better and more consistent each week as we get into our winter months. The mahi have thinned out the last few days, but there's still a couple here and there. A couple wahoo have been showing up in addtion to the king mackerel, and the Relentless caught an impressive 54 lber while sailfishing on 40 lb monofilament leader! I haven't had any tuna reports form the Humps further offshore, but the boats have still been picking away at a few on the wrecks and just outside the reef. I made it out on 2 daytime swordfish trips, and we caught 2 fish on both trips. We released 3 and kept one close to 150 lbs. The broadbill swordfish bite has been very consistent, and if weather cooperates, this month is a great one to try your luck! It looks windy the next few days, but fishing on the reef and patch reefs is definitely do able. Give us a call when you're ready to come fishing in Islamorada and we'll set you up with a great boat! 1 800 742 7945.
