10/23/14 Some rainy islamorada weather but still great fishing opportunities!

We've had some gloomy weather here through the florida keys late in october here.  We've been getting lots of moisture from the gulf and remenants of a tropical system out there.  It looks to remain that way today and tomorrow with Saturday getting much nicer again.  It has not slowed the fishing down though and actually can be a pretty good condition with the low light levels.  Yesterday Capt. Jim Willcox, Capt. Mike Venezia, and Capt. Rick Stanczyk plus an offshore boat had a corporate group trip with a bunch of guys down from Miami and Orlando.  They were worried the night before about coming down though we told 'em fishing has been pretty good, we can usually squeeze out a half day even if it's raining as long as there is no lightning which there has not been much of.  So we made it happen and even got the full day in with only a little rain on the ride in for 20 minutes.  Fishing was excellent Capt. Jim had some good redfish and snook action back at cape sable, Capt. Mike had some snook, nice snappers for dinner, and some sharks, and Capt. Rick had a few nice snook, snappers, and got into an insane tarpon bite landing 5 out of 12 hookups.  Capt. Jim the day before had caught a couple nice bonefish in the rain staying fairly close to home.  Capt. Ben Ekblom had a great day with a large group trip a few days before too they got some real nice snappers around the islands, caught some big spinner sharks, and a bunch of other rod benders that kept the guys entertained all day!  Capt. Jeff Beeler has had some good snook action back at the cape sable area this week too.  Capt. John Johansen had some good fishing around flamingo a few days ago too with some nice snappers and juvenile tarpon all fishing shrimp.  Capt. Chris Daly had a good day of snook fishing a few days ago in the rain, his customers braved it and had a good time with some snapper for dinner too! Things are still warm enough that just about anything can be caught in the backcountry of islamorada.  It's cool enough that some of the fall/winter time fishing is getting better with snook, redfish, trout, etc... but still warm that big fish such as tarpon, sharks, and more are still on the prowl.  Spanish mackerel will be zinging drags shortly and I think with the first good cold front things will really go off out there in the gulf and on the patch reefs.  October fishing in Islamorada is one of our favorite times of year!
