Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Tomorrow, December 3rd 2014, we are hosting a Celebration of Life for long time Bud n' Mary's Backcountry guide Capt. Ken Cohan and his wife Jayanna. The service starts at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. we plan on leaving with the fleet to spread their ashes in the beautiful waters of Islamorada. At 5:30 p.m. we will have a slide show with food and drinks to celebrate their wonderful lives. They will always be a part of Islamorada and especially the marina. Not a day goes by we don't think of you two. If you were friends with Kenny or Jayanna please feel free to show up to the marina by 3 p.m.
I can't believe we are already fishing in Islamorada in December! Time goes by so fast. We had another very strong cold front come though last week, and with it tons of bait has moved out to the edge of the reef! Last week the sailfish bite was mediocre. There was a few caught and released each day amongst the fleet, but no big numbers. Sure enough though, a few days after the cold front the wind swung around due East and the fish bit! The Kalex released 6 sails a couple days ago, the Buzz On released 5, and Capt. Glen from the Gon Fishin V fished on a private boat and released 3 sails. I really hope these fish stick around because the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament takes place this Friday - Sunday and we'd love to see some exciting numbers caught and released. A few of our charter boats are fishing the event so we wish them luck! There's still been a couple mahi and blackfin tuna in the mix while live baiting off the edge of the reef as well. The king mackerel are just starting to show up too, so if you liked smoked fish you might want to target a few kings! The bottom fishing has been pretty consistent the past week as well. A few days the current was into the wind, which is not ideal condidtions, but fortunatley a lot of the boats were able to fish the shallower "patch reefs" where current isn't as much as a factor. Yellowtail, mutton, and mangrove snappper have been the primary target. We have also seen a fair amount of red and black grouper the last week. Remember that grouper season CLOSES January 1st for 4 months, so if you want some fresh grouper to eat come and catch it soon! The next few weeks are a great time to fish here before the Christmas Crowds show up, so give us a call in the office at 800 742 7945 to book your next fishing trip!

10 year old Harrison admires a sailfish he released on the Bn'M II. Remember the best way to ensure a healthy release on a sailfish is to take a picture in the water! You might be able to catch him again on a future trip!
