Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Gary Brauckman and friend, Kyle, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL   Winds were out of the east at 5-10 mph and seas were running 2-3 ft.

Gary was amazed to see the short ride we had to go out to the fishing grounds.  Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water, 1-8 miles from shore.  If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you are in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.  With blue indigo water pushed all the way in, I decided to troll around a little bit before doing some live bait fishing.  As we trolled around catching a couple of Kingfish, a black shadow appeared on the right short rigger – Sailfish!!!!! – as he attacked the Ballyhoo and exited the water immediately.  Gary was our angler and jumped into the fighting chair to do battle.  A short time later, the line went slack as the fish was rewarded with dinner and freedom.

At that point, I told Mark our mate to set up two kites.  With two live Mullets from each kite and one on the bottom, we were ready for whatever came.  Our first strike was on the right short, as Kyle reeled in a Black Tip Shark.  From there we reset again – this time the bottom rod bent over and Gary was our angler.  Twenty minutes into the battle very little line was retrieved and with both kites still out, a splash occurred on the right long kite – the fish grabbed the bait; now we were hooked up - one on the surface and one on the bottom.   Thirty minutes into the fight, Kyle reeled in a Hammerhead Shark – pictures were taken and the shark was released.  Gary continued to do battle with his fish.  After an hour and fifty minutes, Gary’s fish appeared by the side of the boat, a Bull Shark estimated to weigh 200 lbs.  Pictures were taken and the Shark was released.

With smiles on everyone’s faces, the anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
