Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It's still been really busy here in Islamorada, so I have been a little slow on updating everyone on the fishing lately in Islamorada. The past two days the Cheeca Lodge Presidential Sailfish Tournament took place and for what has been a mediocre sailfish bite lately, two of our boats did great! The Relentless finished in 1st place with 12 releases, 11 on day 1 and then 1 more on Day 2. The Catch 22 finished in 2nd place with 8 releases, 7 on Day 1, and 1 more on Day 2. Congrats guys!
Last weekend the Islamorada Ladies Sailfish took place, and the Buzz On finished in first place with 5 releases. It's a fun event, and a great way to get the ladies on the boat. They had 4 fish the first day and 1 more the second day. Congrats girls!
The Kalex also won a recent sailfish tournament, which was one for fly anglers. It's called the Sailfly, and catching a sailfish on fly in Islamorada is very challenging. The first day no fish were caught, but the second day the Kalex released 1 on fly, which was enough to win the event. Great Job! Overall the past 10 days here there's been a few sailfish around every day, if you are patient and put your time in you definitely have a shot at getting a fish or two. Making the bites count is very important, especially when opportunities are limited. The difference between a slow day and a good day is just a bite or two many days. We had some nice wahoo's caught last week when it was calm, around the full moon.

The kingfish bite has still been good, with fish from 5 to 15 lbs, and a few bigger ones. The boats anchoring down bottom fishing have been catching yellowtail snapper, a few mangrove snapper, a couple mutton snapper, and a few cero mackerel, which all make for great table fare. There's still been the occasional mahi and blackfin tuna while live baiting, as well as some big sharks if you want to pull on something strong!

We definitely have some great Islamorada offshore boats open the next couple weeks here in Islamorada for fishing charters, so give the office at call at 1 800 742 7945 and we'll set you up.
