san Francisco Fishing report 02/05/15

Hey Sportsmen,

We have been experiencing some very good sturgeon fishing. The trick is to wait for the correct time!

Monday we fished the last 3 hours of the flood tide and landed 4 sturgeon. 2 were very close to the mark. I moved and set up on a line of fish in 35 feet of water for the ebb tide. We landed 2 more sturgeon, a shaker and a fine keeper sturgeon.

Tuesday I took the day off to work on taxes.

Wednesday we started fishing the last 3 hours of the ebb tide. We had one possible bite in 28 feet of water and that was it. I moved back to 39 feet of water for the flood tide. During the last 3 hours of the flood the fish really turned on. We landed 9 sturgeon and missed a few. Steveo was the first to hook a good fish on one of his custom leaders. The fish went 51 inches. At one point we had a double hookup going. While I was working with Kristoff and his battle Klovs lands a shaker. As Klovs’s shaker hits the deck my rod goes off. My rod by the way is brand new custom rod. It was presented to me at my seminar as a thank you for the work on the kid’s derby I created and for the help I have been giving Rich and Trisha. It was custom built by Rich and Trisha and is a beautiful rod. I have been trying to break it in on a quality fish. The last 3 trips I hooked a sturgeon every trip but they were all short. Steveo picked up my rod and after I netted Kristoff’s 44 inch sturgeon I battled my sturgeon. The rod did a great job and I beat the large sturgeon. It was too big to land as it was about 78 inches so it was released in the water.

Today we started fishing in 38 feet of water for the last 3 hours of the ebb tide. No luck on the ebb so we stayed in deep water for the flood tide. Some of my fishermen put scent on the bait of 5 rods. They were never touched. 1 of my other fishermen was on fire and missed a good sturgeon then landed a shaker and then landed beautiful 54 inch sturgeon. Floyd fished with me last Saturday and released an over size sturgeon. Today he landed a grand 54 incher. Theses are the first sturgeon he has caught since he was 12 years old. Our best action was in deep water near the Benicia Bridge and during the last 2 hours of the flood tide. Our best bait was eel. We are starting to use Steveo Gutierrez’s custom leaders and so far they passed the test. I canceled tomorrows trip because of the weather.

Enjoy the photos.
