San Francisco Fishing report 02/15/15

Hey Fishermen,

The sturgeon fishing remains strong. Yesterday we had many good bites and hooked a few sturgeon. We landed one that was ½ inch short of the mark. I had a young lady battle a sturgeon for 12 minutes. The fish jumped and cleared the water by a few feet twice. She had the fish beat and 3 feet from the net he did his last back flip and broke the leader. He won that battle and is out there to fight another day. The trip before last we had limit style fishing. I had a light load of 3 fishermen. Robert hooked one of the biggest sturgeon I have seen in a while. The fish jumped and the weight pulled the barbless hook out.  We did land some other keepers and the two we harvester were a 55 inch 60 plus pound and a 59.5 inch that went 72 lbs. I believe that is about the biggest keeper you could harvest. Captain Zach is running Flash II for me topday as I had a training that I had to attend. The last I heard they had a couple of shakers and lost a good keeper. The water temperature is up to 59 degrees. Normally this time of year the temperature is in the mid 40s. So you have to be careful as these fish are on fire. They bite more aggressively, they fight like mad dogs and most of the fish are jumping all the way out of the water. Even in 40 feet of water. It is important you keep a tight line on these fish. Don’t let a snappy diaper striper bite fool you, it might be that sturgeon you are looking for. The tides are good through the end of the month and the fish are holding in the deeper water, 30 to 40 foot depth. My best bait is just eel although the very large sturgeon took eel grass combo. I am booked full for the next 7 days. I have some room on the 23rd and some room on the last few days of the month. Enjoy the photos of some of the quality sturgeon harvested from the last trips.
