Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We're already through the first week of April fishing at Bud n' Mary's in Islamorada. It's spring time fishing, with a little mix of everything. Each day the fishing is a different, with one day being good for some fish and slow the next, but if you're ready for everything you'll have a good day on your charter. We saw a couple days with some sailfish releases which was a nice suprise since it had been a little slow for them the past few weeks. A few boats had 1 - 3 releases a few days in a row. I don't think the sailfishing will be super consistent any more till next winter, but I do think we'll see a few here and there, and hopefully we get "tailing" conditions where sailfish and cobia migrate down a color change (if the wind and current line up just right). The reef fishing has been steady with yellowtail snapper, a few mutton snapper, a few mangrove snapper, and some grouper releases. The permit are showing up on the wrecks and that will be an option if you stay near the reef. There's been a few cobia the past week following the stingrays, but you definitely have to put your time in looking for them, or just get lucky and find a school. Further offshore we have seen the mahi bite good a few days and slow some other days. It should only get more consistent the next few weeks. On the good days some boats had 3 - 4 slammers in the 20 - 25 lb range, and other fish in the 3 - 15 lb range. If you are fortunate and find floating debris there's been some tripletail and wahoo on them as well. The blackfin tuna have been on the hump a few days, but they are really just starting to show up. There's been some big amberjacks over 50 lbs lately as well as some big sharks including bulls, hammerheads, duskys, and tigers. Way offshore I made it out on a couple daytime swordfishing trips and it's been a little rough, but we released 2 broadbill today, and our friends Garrett and Barry teamed up to catch a 283 lber! The next few months are a great time to try your luck for them if you've ever wanted to catch one. Give the marina a call at 305 664 2461 to book your next offshore fishing adventure!
