Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
I know I've been a little behind on posting fishing reports lately, so I'm making up for it with this one covering the last two weeks. We've had some greats catches recently at Bud n' Mary's. Of course there's been a few slow days too. It's called fishing for a reason, and there's no guarantees. We had some decent days on sailfish, which was the Spring Time conditions we were hoping for, but it only lasted a few days when the wind and current lined up. The Buzz On got in on the action one day releasing 8 sails, the Relentless had 5 sails two days ago, and quite a few boats had 1 - 2 releases. I think we'll see a few more here and there, but we are definitely getting ready to start heading offshore more, and won't be spending every day on the reef. There's been some great catches of yellowtail snapper, quite a few grouper to release, a few mutton snapper, and some permit around the reef as well. I know everyone is excited for May 1st so we can keep a couple grouper for dinner! Offshore the dolphin fishing has been decent. One day we do very well, and the next day it's a struggle. The boats that have found floating "debris" have done the best. The fish drift with the debris because of all the bait that gathers around it. Some boats have just had a couple dolphin some days, while others have had as many as 20 - 30 fish. There's been schoolies in the 3 - 5 lb range, quite a few gaffers up to 15 lbs, and a couple slammers over 20 lbs. The Redfish caught the biggest dolphin on the dock of the year so far with a 47 lb Bull last week! The dolphin (mahi) fishing should only get better as we get into May. There's also been some tasty tripletail around the debris. The blackfin tuna have been showing up on the Humps lately, mainly footballs in the 3 - 7 lb range, but a few over 15 lbs. There's been some nice amberjack as well as some big sharks around the humps too. We are still seeing the occassional wahoo caught trolling as well. Way offshore I did quite a bit of swordfishing the last 10 days. We had one day with 3 fish, a couple days with 2 fish, and a couple days with 0 fish. The biggest was 135 lbs. Capt. Charlie on the Bn'M swordfished yesterday and they had 3 fish as well. We are hosting 2 fishing tournaments next month, the Gotta Luv Them Dolphin Tournament on May 16 and the Pelagic Triple Crown Memorial Day Classic on May 25th. Call the office at 1 800 742 7945 if you'd like to book a charter boat, (or bring your own boat), and you can have some fun fishing and a chance at winning some $$$!
Tight Lines,
Capt. Nick Stanczyk
