July 2015 Ft. Myers Offshore Charter Fishing Report

 | By Seamus on 7/7/2015 10:56:13 AM | Views (1496) We’ve been having some great fishing on the Fish n Tales out of Fish Tale Marina over the last few weeks. Gag grouper season just opened on July 1, and we are able to continue fishing for red snapper for another week or so making our long range trips off the hook.



We need to do minimum 24 hour trips to get out far enough to catch the red snapper here on our boat, but when we get out that far we are in the land of giant grouper as well.



On recent trips we have caught easy limits of red snapper over 30”, big gag grouper up to 40 pounds or so, and 1 big black grouper also of about 40 pounds. Red grouper over 30” have also been coming over the gunnels as well as a few mutton snapper on our most recent trip. Some huge mangrove snapper up to 28” have rounded the catches in deep water. Red grouper fishing on our 10 hour trips has also been excellent with easy limits on most trips, along with assorted mangrove, vermillion and yellowtail snapper up to 24”.



The near shore trips of 5-6 hours have been great action trips with lots of lane snapper, white grunts, a few mangrove snapper, some sharks, and tons of short grouper along with at least a few keepers on every trip.
