Deschutes River Redside Trout Report
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R E D S I D E  T R O U T:
Effective Saturday, July 18, and until further notice, all waterbodies defined as streams in the 2015 Oregon Sportfishing Regulations are closed above tidewater (where applicable) to fishing for trout, salmon, steelhead and sturgeon from 2 p.m. to one hour before sunrise.

The Deschutes River above Macks Canyon; the Metolius River; the Fall River; the Crooked River (from mouth to Bowman Dam); and Tumalo Creek. The Hood River and its tributaries and the White River and its tributaries.

We are finally out of the killer heat wave that started early and lasted almost a month, WAY too long. Morning fishing is okay, but the last 3 hours of the day is best. Midday you will hook the odd fish, but you'll have to work for it.

Seeing caddis now, typical summer time hatches include: Net Spinning Caddis (16's), American Grannom (16's), and Igloo Cased Caddis (20's).

During summer months caddis can be, and usually are an abundant food source for trout anytime of the day. The middle of the day can be a little tough, mornings typically better, but its usually the best from 6PM until dark. The reason; toward the end of each day, caddis pupa emerge quickly to the surface to become adults and rapidly escape from the the river to find refuge on stream side vegetation.
At the same time, the caddis that became adults a day or two ago, are returning to the river to lay their eggs.

If you’re getting refusals using the adult stones, trail a “dry” Yellow Sally about 15” behind the adult stone fly. Use no less than 5X tippet material.

Best water types to fish. Back eddies, steep bank runs with foam lines, riffles, and down stream of riffles where the water slows and deepens. Try some of the heavier water a little further out right in the seam just inside the dancing waves.

Thanks, see ya soon
