Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Mountain Trout Streams: There are an abundance of terrestrial insects along these streams. Since these trout have seen many artificial flies by this time of the season I like to use patterns they have not seen. Our new series is excellent, including the Murray’s Oakworm Dry size 16, Murray’s Yellow Jacket Dry size 16 and Murray’s Horsefly Dry size 16. Fish these below overhanging tree limbs and downstream from shrubs on a Classic 9 foot 6X Leader. Delayed Harvest and Stocked Trout Streams: The streams are becoming warm and many large trout are moving in below the springs to feed on the natural shrimp and cress bugs that live here. Effective patterns are Shenk’s Cress Bug size 14, Shrimp size 14 and Shenandoah Sowbug size 14. One effective tactic is to fish these flies upstream dead drift below the springs. Streams that have good springs are Big Stoney Creek both above and below Columbia Furnace, North Creek at Arcadia and the lower Pedlar River.
