7/30/15 Deep Sea fishing report for end of July 2015

 | By Seamus on 7/30/2015 3:06:06 PM | Views (721)

It's still busy here deep sea fishing in Islamorada for July. The majority of the boats have been fishing offshore most days, and a couple boats have been staying on the reef on their half day charters. The mahi bite was a little on and off the past week, but the last few days we saw a handful of great catches. Most of the boats have had 10 - 25 fish on their full day charters, but a few boats struggles some days and only had a couple mahi. We've had some very calm weather the last few days and I think once the wind goes back around and starts blowing from the east we'll see some more big numbers of them. There's been fish of all sizes, but mostly 3 - 15 lbs. I did see a few "slammers" on the dock each day between 20 and 35 lbs as well. There's been a few blackfin tuna on the humps as well as skipjacks. On the floating debris and weed patches there's been a handful of tripletail as well as a couple wahoo.

Back on the reef the boats have been doing decent with mangrove snapper and the yellowtail snapper bite has been mediocre. There's been some big bull sharks from 200 - 300 lbs on the reef, so if you want to catch something big that pulls back, there's something you should consider fishing for. I made it out on a few daytime swordfishing trips the past week. We had John from Texas out on the Catch 22 one day and he landed a monster sword! Weighing in at 451.5 lbs! The next day Robert landed a 300 lb big eye thresher shark that we released. The following trip we lost a couple swordfish near the boat, but that's why it's called fishing.

August is still a greath month to try for mahi and blackfin tuna here, so give us a call at 305 664 2461 and let us set you up on a great boat at the marina! There should be some big sharks on the humps this fall too.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Nick Stanczyk
