Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Hey Sportsmen,My vacation is over and I am back to work. As most of you know I take 2 weeks off and go hunting in Idaho and Wyoming with some good friends. My atelope hunt was a lot of fun. I filled my 4 tags in one day and a few hours the next morning. Being a meat hunter I try to get the freezer meat (Speed Goats) done as fast and clean as possible. The speed goats we hunt are very spooky as they have been hunted for over 3 week before we hunt them. So they present a great chalange. It can be frustraiting sometimes to do an hour and half stalk and then get busted and off they sprint for a few miles. The thril of my goat hunt was a long stalk on a small herd. I worked my way up to 175 yards and they had no clue I was there. I had a great opertunity on a mature doe when I decided to check out some of the others before I take the doe. Well I moved to thr right and picked up 4 feeding. I waited for them to raise there heads . The first one to raise his head was a nice buck. So I decided to take the buck. I sent the 160gn Noslet Accubond from my custom 284 Win. A quick kill, more premium meat! Once I walked up to the buck I notecied there was no ground shrinkage, in fact he turned out to be a bigger buck than I thought. Dave and I made the run back to elk camp in Idaho. The next morning we took the animals to Pete the butcher in Salmon. He stated that I had a very nice buck. I then went and talked to Daniel the local taxidermist I know. He was imprested with my goat and it was bigger than any he had on the wall. He scored it at 75. I think that is good. I left the cape and head with him to do a shoulder mount. I will pick it up next season. The next morning I did my first elk hunt and that was not so fun. To make a long story short I reinjured some ligements in my foot. The elk hunting was tough as they were still in their comfort zones due to the conditions. I tried to use one of my horses but I could not even keep my foot in the sturip because of the pain. So I was on light duty with no success on the elk. It still was a great trip with good friends, food and sprits around camp and the mountains. I have another appointment this Friday with a diferent doctor. I will get this foot fixed up before next season. 3 Days ago Deb and I moved Flash I over to Martinez. Yesterday day was my first sturgeon/bass charter. I had a group of 4 fun guys that chartered the boat privately and they had steady action all day. There are a ton of schoolie bass around. I believe we landed over 30 bass to get 4 solid keepers to 29 inches. We had quite a few good sturgeon bites and landed 3 that were all released. The eel and grass shrimp worked very well for us. We did not go far, we fished near the old first row of ships and buoy 4 in Suisun Bay. I canceled todays trip due to wind. The tides start geeting very good at the end of the week and continue through the end of the month.Enjoy the photos.Captain Steve Talmadge Flash Sport Fishing
