san Francisco Fishing report 11/23/15

Hey Fishermen,

I took the week off due to the slower tides. I was back on the water yesterday sturgeon hunting. I had a light load with only 3 fishermen. This is my 2nd trip of the season so I was anxious. The day started off a little slow but with sturgeon you just have to put in your time. Once the current rolled over max during the ebb the sturgeon started to bite. The first few bites were missed. Then the first sturgeon was hooked up. Mike landed a 38 incher.  A short time later John hooked up and had a great fight going. Judging by the way the fish was pulling and loading up his rod I estimated he was battling a very good keeper or an oversize fish. Well we will never know as the fish won the battle. I believe it rolled on the line with some very sharp scoots, as it was all shredded and torn to pieces. Travis then had some very good bites and the 3rd time was a charm as he hooked into a great fighting fish. I netted the fish and it was a beautiful 55 incher.  Not soon after that Mike hooks up and the fight was on. This fish was on fire! It made some 100 yard runs. It took a while and Mike was taking a beating but he finally landed the fish. A quick rough measurement put the fish about 67 to 68 inches and around 78 inches , measured the old way. The amazing thing was the girth. This is one of the biggest girths for this size fish I have seen in my 40 years of sturgeon fishing. Check out the photo next to my size 13 boot. It took 3 of us to gently release the fish as it was well over 100lbs.  So next up is John he tags a 43 inch keeper. Then soon after that he released another short sturgeon. All this action happened in less that 3 hours. We were fishing near buoy 4 and everything took straight eel. It is good to be back!  The tides are good through the end of the month and I have some room left. Enjoy the photos.
