Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Hey Fishermen,
I did my first sturgeon trip yesterday since I returned from my vacation. The sturgeon conditions have changed since my last trip a week and a half ago. On the way out I noticed more fish in the 32 to 36 foot range of water. I anchored near where the first row of old ships used to be for the last hour and a half of the ebb tide. Near the end of the tide we landed a nice 51-inch sturgeon. During the battle the fish busted all the way out of the water, 35 feet away from the boat. That got everyone fired up! When the tide ended we moved to 21 feet of water inside buoy 4. This is the area we have been having consistent action. Well, we fished almost the whole tide with only some possible bites. I decided to move back down to the deeper water for the last 45 minutes of the flood tide. Just at the end of the tide we boxed another keeper. On the next trip I will have a different plan, subject to change as we take a look on our way out. Overall the sturgeon season started out very good for us. Eel has been the #1 bait of choice since we started the sturgeon season. I was also pleased to see the increase in numbers of fish from the Benicia Bridge to the ships during yesterdays trip. Enjoy the photos from yesterday!
