Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Hey Fishermen,
We had some good rain and strong wind lately, which caused me to cancel a few trips. I made it out yesterday in between rain storms. I was eager to check the system out after all the rain. I have to say it was good a week ago and has improved with the rain. I marked a lot more large fish. I had five fishermen aboard yesterday, including twins from Singapore. The twins had a trip of a lifetime. We started the day about a mile above the fleet, fishing the last two hours of the flood tide. We shook a bass and lost a sturgeon. I then moved down to the inside of the old Glomar buoys in 35 feet of water. The first push of the flood was a little slow with just a few possible bites. After the tide rolled over max current it was game on. We started getting some good bites. We had a couple of shaker bass. The first sturgeon was landed but it was too short. Then one of the twins hooked a big one. The fish was smoking the reel and jumping clear out of the water. I had to pull anchor as I started to see the backing on the reel. We drifted through the bridges and about a half mile before we landed the fish. The fish jumped 5 times during the 25 to 30 minute fight. It was 69 inches to the fork and 76 inches overall. The fish was literally larger than the fisherman (see photo). We estimated the weight around 125 lbs. After a few quick photos, three of us put the fish back to fight another day. I ran back up to the same spot. After another shaker bass, twin number two got on. We did not have to pull anchor for that one; however, the fish did put up a 25 minute battle. Again, bigger than the fisherman! This one was 67 inches to the fork and 74 inches overall. The tide was getting close to the end when Mark hooked up. He landed his fish, which was too close to the mark to say so we released it to grow a little more. All of our fish took just plain eel. This was a great trip! With the water conditions we have, I think it will continue and even get better. When we get a lot of rain I don’t think tides are as important. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I will be off the water for Christmas, then back on Saturday through next week. Saturday has room with a 9:00 am start, Sunday is full and Monday has room. Enjoy the photos!
