Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
As I write this Galveston Fishing Report here during this first week of May - we are experiencing a 'Cool Front' with North Winds bending the saltgrass in the marshes. This is definitely not the norm for our Galveston Gulf Coast during this month - but I am certain a Galveston Island Summer is peaking around the corner with south east breezes, white sand beaches and clear skies. The air temps may briefly touch down in the 60's for a few hours, but 80 degrees and sunny skies is definitely on the horizon. Water temperatures for Galveston Bay have been in the mid to upper 70's the past week, and despite the rainfall - Galveston Fishing has been good.
The brief north winds we are experiencing is sure to calm down the Galveston Beach Front, and clean waters will enter the Bay System soon.
The past few days our Galveston Fishing Guides have spent most their time fishing the West Galveston Bay areas with a few days being calm enough early to get out along the Galveston Jetties with some very good results. Speckled trout, Red Fish and Flounder have been the Big Three lately. Live shrimp under popping corks, as well as free lined are both working good for speckled trout, reds and flounder. We are catching most of our trout over shell and mud in 2 to 3 foot of water when fishing the Bays and tight along the granite when fishing along the jetties. Our Galveston Wade Fishing Trips have been producing large speckled trout. Chicken on a chain plastics and Pink Topwaters have been the best producers. We are walking 2 foot sand bottoms and targeting slicks along the guts of these flats. The bite has been in spurts, and patience is key. This is an incredible time to catch a Galveston Trophy Speckled Trout, and we know where they are roaming.
Sharks are beginning to show up in numbers along the passes and jetties, and these toothy, athletic fish are sure to make a reel scream! Our Galveston Shark Fishing Charters will be in full swing soon, and there are many species that we catch here in Galveston, Texas. Bull Sharks, Hammerhead, Black Tip, Spinners, Sand Bar, shovel head and more all call Galveston home during the warmer summer months.
Summer Time is fast approaching and there are many fun things happening here on Galveston Island. Red Snapper Season is around the corner, Sharks are swimming, Giant Speckled Trout are here in mass numbers, Red Fish in the Galveston Bays and Marshes, Flounder Gigging will be heating up, and our Galveston Summer Fishing Camps for Kids will be here soon!
