Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Ross Cordave, who owns a welding company in New Mexico, was vacationing with his family in Fort Lauderdale and decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing. His four children, Angelo, Josh, Chris and Nicole along with his grandson, Estevan, came along to this fishing excursion while his wife stayed at the hotel enjoying a day off and resting. As they got on board, Ross advised me that his wife had a request for fresh fish for tonight's dinner.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, we put lines in the water north of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL located in 120 ft. of water 1.8 miles from shore.  We started off trolling the reef ranging from 80 ft. of water out to 200 ft. with two #8 plainers down.  For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.  While trolling the reefs, we started catching some nice size Kingfish. Estevan was our first angler and he caught an 11 lb. Kingfish. Thereafter the rest of the anglers joined in and caught a total of six Kingfish, ranging in size from 7 lbs. to 15 lbs. and five Bonitos.

Ross made a request to do some Shark fishing, so we headed out to the Shark grounds to an area north of Fort Lauderdale in 340 ft. of water near one of our 36 artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale. Our mate, Dave, put out three Shark baits - surface, midrange and bottom. As the family was talking about the good meal they had at Aruba's the night before, the midrange bait got hooked up with the line peeling off of the 80 International Reel. Ross hopped into the fighting chair and said, "Let the fun begin". Dave, our mate, was about to clear the bottom Shark bait to avoid a tangle when the surface bait got hooked up - now we had a double header - the real fun began. Angelo was the other angler to fight the second Shark. After a twenty-minute fight, Angelo's Shark pulled the hook while Ross was still doing battle. Ten minutes later Dave wired in a Hammerhead Shark measuring 76". Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to enjoy another meal.

With plenty of fish in the box for dinner tonight, it was time to head back – the anglers retired into the a/c salon for the relaxing trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
