Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Some very hot days this week has had the barometer spinning & has certainly brought the fish out to play, some terrific captures from within the harbour have anglers hungry for more & this weekend with the predicted high temperatures will be no different.
Anthony Ocsing fished from his kayak around Manly and landed a big 84cm female flathead on a vibe lure, after a couple of quick pics the fish was released back to the water, great job Anthony. Kingfish are on the prowl around the headlands with trolled yellowtail & hard body lures working for Dom Poletta & Mike Nielson who landed four fish to 86cm near Middle Head. If it’s live bait you’re after plenty of squid are available around most of the local kelp beds while schools of yellowtail scad at Balmoral are readily taking bait jigs. Drifting around the Spit Bridge has been successful for Dean Williams who landed a feed of flathead using 4’soft plastics and bladed lures fishing around the drop off at Clontarf.
The excessively warm water temps around the shallows may have some species heading deeper to cooler water so be prepared to fish a little wider of your favourite spot. The offshore fishing is on the up this week, some good marlin have been reported taking small skirted lures offshore in the blue water, while the mahi can be found around the local FAD’s it’s the early morning sessions that are having more positive results on the larger fish. Good luck this weekend & use plenty of sunscreen out there it’s going to be a belter.
