Weekly Fishing Report 23rd June 2017

Weekly Fishing ReportThis weekend is shaping up to be a beauty & with the wind & swell predicted to stay down, it’s going to be a great opportunity to get amongst the fish because there’s plenty on the bite.
We’re having quite a solid early run on the snapper this season with consistent reports coming in from anglers fishing our local inshore reefs. Kirk Branch headed out in search of the big reds & certainly wasn’t disappointed when he pulled a good fish over the side using a soft plastic set up. Metre kingfish have been quite frequent over the last week on the reefs, & whole large arrow squid has been a consistent bait for catching these monsters.
The wide Offshore scene is on the up with reports of albacore showing up, a 35kg yellowfin was hooked & landed in one of these schools, trolling lures was the technique. There is a good temp break off Nowra at the moment & this will hopefully move north over the next few weeks & bring some decent tuna with it.

The harbour is clearing after the recent rains & with visibility on the up more predatory fish are moving upstream chasing bait schools, Middle Harbour has been popular with small boat anglers targeting bream, flathead & tailor with good success. Some solid whiting are being taken around Clontarf & Chinaman’s Beaches this week with some fish being up to 44cm in size, purchased king beachworms have been a terrific bait to catch these big elbow slappers & due to the worms’ larger size are a great bait for bream, big flathead & our arriving winter trevally. Lightly weighted worm baits cast over the drop offs is the key to bagging a feed of these species.
