What a difference a few days make. Last week we were fighting wind and choppy seas offshore, and huge waves inshore. When the big waves are pounding the surf line, even the bait fish can’t handle it and move out to deeper water. This creates a situation where the game fish can’t corral the bait in the relative shallow water the bait feeds in, and are not able to push them into the shallows, making them easy targets.

Offshore (average) surface water temperature - Includes from the 5-6 mile mark at the 100 fathom line, then to the 1,000 fathom line being at 32 miles: 85°.
Inshore (average) surface temperature. From the beach to about 5 miles: 84°
Blue water: (Chlorophyll amounts and surface temps from Terrafin SST) Blue water from the beach to way out. There are a few isolated inshore areas with discolored water, but way less than last week.

Offshore- Sailfish, a few dorado, yellowfin tuna on a hit or miss situation, and a few blue marlin. The numbers are not high, but there is some action.




Inshore: Most of last week, Cheva (panga Dos Hermanos II) fished with clients from France. They had tough fishing conditions, but on the 9th day, and last day of fishing before heading back home, they had a fantastic day. Starting out at the river mouth of Valentine (Valen – teen) they got into huge jack crevalle with the spin rods, using surface poppers and live bait. Taking 15 of the large jacks, between 15 and 20 pounds, they also took an estimated 25 pound snook on live bait. Then, moving down towards the Petalan area and the antenna’s, they also got an incredible 27 roosterfish. Fishing was tough for them for several days, but they will be back.
