Fishouttawater Fishing Report 21st July 2017

 | By Seamus on 7/22/2017 1:51:37 PM | Views (1588)

Weather reports are looking good for the weekend so it could be a good time to bag a feed of fish.

The Harbour is fishing well when conditions allow with a mixed bag of trevs, bonito and salmon. A good berley trail will always pick up a feed of trevs but be aware of the big winter kings in the berley trail as they can cause havoc when you are not expecting them. Just hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

Narabeen Lake in the early morning and evening is still producing a range of species including bream, whiting and flathead although a lot of fish are on the small size, it is good for kids learning to fish as they will always get a fish or two using very light tackle as the water is crystal clear. Fluorocarbon leader with minimal weight plus a good box of worms should keep them happy for a few hours.

Off the stones and some of the headlands, there are reports of some amazing kings taking fishos to task with more bust-offs than fish landed.

Fishos casting metal lures for smaller pelagics have encountered some of the large winter kings and have struggled while fishing with lighter gear, but any hookup is better than no hookup.

Drummer and luderick are in abundance off the ledges using a variety of baits like week, artificial weed and crab being the baits of choice.

Outside the heads, Long Reef seems to be the place to fish with a variety of species being caught including pearl, perch john dory, kingfish, bonito and snapper.

Trolling bib lures can usually pick up bonito and some kings but a good consistant berley trail in a bit of current will pick up a range of species.

Offshore, the fishos around Browns are still picking up a feed with the deep drop rigs and there are reports of makos and blue sharks patrolling the area. But there is still no sign of the tuna as the currents seem to be staying south of Sydney.
