Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The temperature is predicted to rise up around twenty six degrees over the weekend so it should be a good time to get out for a fish.
Narrabeen Lakes is the perfect schooling ground for young kids and adults alike armed with light tackle and a few worms or prawns. A great day out can be had by all.
The lake is fishing well in the early morning with the usual bream and whiting. While lots of fish are on the smaller size there are some good catches of legal sized fish available around the sand flats and the bridges.
On the beaches fishing seems to have gone into another gear with tailor, salmon and trevally all on the chew taking a range of baits fished on single hooks or ganged rigs.
Worms or strips of squid in the early morning and pilchards, mullet and squid strips in the late evening should see you with a nice feed of table fish but keep in mind, while tailor and sharks are about, a heavier leader and sometimes a wire trace is essential.
On the rock ledges and platforms an abundance of drummer and luderick have fishos taking a good feed using anything from bread, crabs, weed and artificial weed while others have had a great time casting metals and stick baits for the run of pelagics that are on patrol at this time.
While fishing these locations, wave and tides must be checked and proper cleats or rock boots are a must, along with a life jacket (Personal Floatation Devices). The more recently designed PFD’s are far less uncomfortable and it could mean the difference between a good days fishing and an injury or worse.
The headlands and ledges are a great place to view our ocean but no one wants to see garbage or discarded material lying around so when you finish for the day take a few minutes to clean the area before you leave .
The harbour has still an abundance of good quality squid on offer around the boat moorings using small squid jigs.
So take advantage of this and grab yourself a feed or some quality bait.
Inside the heads, schools of salmon , tailor and bonito are patrolling the area and casting small metals or trolling shallow bibbed lures should account for these while bait fishing should pick up the trevs that are on offer.
Off shore the main body of fishing at the moment seems to be good quality snapper and very large winter kings are being taken on the reefs as far up as Palm Beach and while burley trails will account for a lot of species, down rigging squid or live yakas would be the way to target the kings.
With the favourable currents avoiding Sydney at the moment we can only hope for a change in the coming weeks and the band of fishos waiting patiently for the tuna to arrive will be able to get out and target these excellent fighting fish.
As with all boating adventures, stay safe.
