Following is the balance of Friday's column ( including all the fishing info) that didn't make print. Additionally, the figure "5" got into the preceding paragraph relating to Reef Rescue's request for anglers to call their state senator to request support for S-221, the Pots off the Reefs Bill set to be voted on Monday. Only one call per senator is required.:

Capt.Pete Grimbilas will discuss Pots off the Reefs, and all the political intrigue involved in bringing the bill to a vote, tomorrow on Tom Paglioroli's Rack & Fin Radio show from 8 to 9 a.m. on ESPN 97.3 FM. Marine biologist Russ Allen will also be aboard to discuss the good news about N.J. Division of Fish & Wildlife striped bass surveys in South Jersey.

Codfishing continues at a record pace. At Brielle, Capt. Howard Bogan Jr. reported that even though action slowed after a hot start Tuesday, everyone caught legal cod. Frank Pogue of Willingboro had 17 up to a 15-pounder, and Al De Vito of Tinton Falls bagged 12. The Jamaica sails open at 5 a.m. tomorrow and 3 a.m. Sunday. Reservations are needed for tonight's offshore wrecks trip at 11. Last Saturday's trip produced the best codfishing of the year, with catches ranging up to 25 to 10 pounds by Mike Boden of West Windsor.

Capt. Joe Bogan reported good codfishing Saturday on his Jamaica II despite a sloppy sea. Karl Elishans of Jersey City hooked 13, and R. Borgunn from Atlantic City bagged 18. Jamaica II sails at 3 a.m. tomorrow and 5 a.m. Sunday.

Capt. Bobby Bogan had a decent pick of cod from wrecks on Sunday with his Gambler from Point Pleasant as everyone caught at least one to three cod. Leif Pettersen had a 4-pound pollock and two keeper cod while watching young Ben Green of Wayside boat a 20-pound cod on a teaser and a 15-pound pollock on clam. John Bisco of Ridgewood won the pool with a cod just under 25 pounds. Those fish had both herring and sand eels in their stomachs. The Gambler is sailing daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bruce Vitale of Piscataway, with his brother Brian of Warren, AFTCO rep Lou Truppi and others chartered Capt. Chad Hacker's Tagged Fish from Highlands on Tuesday as 65 cod were caught – with 35 from 5 to 10 pounds retained.

Striped bass are being caught from all the usual early season shore spots on clams and worms, but few have made the 28-inch minimum so far. That should change with the milder weather. Tom Paglioroli reports South Jersey rivers are producing short bass on lures.

The Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County held their annual Past President's Dinner Tuesday night at Mountainside Inn in Clifton. As always, there was a big turnout to honor the past presidents of this club founded in 1937 -- even including Phil Leshowitz (1979) who makes the annual trip from his retirement home in Washington State. Especially missed was Ed Ajamian (1994 & 1995), who was actively fishing in Raritan Bay last year before passing away much too young.

President Chuck Santoro presented the big bluefish award to Dennis Nieradka for an 18 9/16-pounder that was part of his runaway win for most points with 13,064. Past president John Piazza (1989) had the largest fish with a 47 7/8-pound striper plus the big fluke at 5 ½ pounds, and finished third in points with 2244. Bob Cameron was a double winner with an 11 1/8-pound blackfish and a 5 13/16-pound sea bass. Past president Butch Pawson (1992 & 2003-2005) had a 2 1/8-pound winter flounder, and finished second in points with 2460.

A Hunting & Fishing Flea Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Sergeantsville Fire House. Rt. 523 -- near the Rt. 604 Intersection. Admission is $3 for adults. For info call Tom Maroth at 215 598-7950.
