After windy weather over the weekend, the next couple of days look good for offshore fishing. Cod remain the prime target. Capt. Bobby Bogan said he had good cod action Sunday on his Gambler from Point Pleasant despite rough seas. Everyone managed at least one cod. Bogan went out to wrecks 20 miles offshore to look for larger cod -- and some in the 15-to-20-pound class were boated along with a couple of pollock. Ben Green of Ocean Township jigged three cod and a pollock, but the pool went to a cod just under 25 pounds that was caught by John Bisco of Ridgewood. Bogan said the fish were feeding on herring and sand eels. The Gambler will sail daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Tuesday.
Capt. Joe Bogan said Saturday's seas were sloppy, but cod cooperated on his Jamaica II from Brielle. Karl Elsishans of Jersey City caught 13 cod, and R. Borguhn from Atlantic City had 18. The Jamaica II will sail for cod on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 5 a.m. -- and Saturday at 3 a.m.
Brielle Tackle reports party boat fishing is also good for ling in depths of 110 to 130 feet, 10 to 15 miles offshore. Anglers average 10 to 15 ling, with high hooks of 17 to 20. Some anglers have been trying for herring and hickory shad in the inlet, but haven't hit them yet.
