June Islamorada Fishing Report

Summer is here and the fishing is nothing short of fantastic in the Florida Keys!  We had a great tarpon season and that is still going strong and can be good all the way into the Fall!  Right now in the summer, most of the larger migrating fish have moved on, however many of the resident males (20 to 60 lbers) are back in the usual haunts and ready to feed!  Spawning is over and they are hungry and make for easy targets.  This is the time of year where catching multiple fish, double headers, etc... its a bit more commonplace!  Aside from tarpon, I've had good luck with permit out on the deeper gulf wrecks.  With my new 2019 Contender Bay Boat I've been able to reach these wrecks in much shorter time running at 50 mph.  Permit have been prevelant on a few of them and with the calm summer time winds, it's often easy pickings fishing for them.  Often times we also run over big schools of them in the gulf while on the move, which provide some of the best permit fishing you will ever see as they are spawning and eating whatever hits the water!  The snook/redfish bite in the everglades is about as good as it has been in 50 years!  We've had an insane amount of redfish for the past year which may be a result of the hurricane a few years ago, or perhaps fish that got pushed here to spawn due to the red tide that the west coast faced last year.  It's not been uncommon to sit on spot and catch 100 redfish in a few hours.  Snook have been very strong as well, but we just notice the redfish more as before hurricane Irma, they were few and far between especially in the warmer months.  Tripletail have been floating in the bays in mass numbers as well, providing great table fare and an easier sight fishing opportunity for novice anglers.  You can also catch plenty of trout and mangrove snapper in the bays right now too.  It's really been about as good as fishing as we've seen all around for a while now.  Who would've though in this day and age fishing would be so much better than it has in years?  Come down and book a trip and see what it's all about.  305-664-2461
