TROUT:VERY EXCELLENT: It is more like late Spring than early Summer and the bite is on. Action is non stop from the boat. Shore action is good but takes a little more effort. Power Bait, any color with garlic. We also have garlic nightcrawlers that work well with a mallow. Trolling is non stop action. Many baits are working. Color patterns change with the time of the day. Pinks and greens continue to work well but blue and silver and orange and white have also done well. Rapala’s typically slow up as we head into Summer but they still are a hot bait. Tube jigs in white, pearl pepper and pumpkin are coming on strong.
Family getaway to Elevenmile. With unpredictable winds we chose to shore fish. Stopped into 11 Mile Marina, after taking a look outside the girl behind the counter recommended PowerBait Chartreuse with glitter. Then she said wait, can’t go wrong with the garlic. Started off on Friday June 21st just west of 11 Mile Marina. There’s a nice parking lot with a bathroom and picnic tables. In the mix of helping with my families pole riggings, I was getting a nibble, I slowly started setting things down, trying to avoid jinxing the light tugs for wind and surf action. I reached for my pole which was properly secured by a rock and a water bottle for good angle. I brought my pole up about waist height and slowly took the slack from the line and bam!! The game was on, I set the hook and watched that hog get air born! Almost 4’ from the surface he cleared the water before splashing in and making a run. I was shocked by the size and I immediately thought is my line gonna hold? Should I loosen my drag? that’s a good idea! After I was done overthinking the situation I brought him into shore. My wife and kids were screaming oh my gosh wow Way to go, dad!! It was my weekend:)KOKANEE SALMON:FAIR: No limits but action none the less. Silver and blue has been a good color combination this week. Look to North Shore Marina in deep water down 12 to 30 feet. Down rigger and or lead core always a benefit. Action also around Duck Island and a surprise fish every now and then off of Rocking Chair in 40 feet of water. Long line 13gram Tas Devils if you don’t have the downrigger or lead core. Or pop in a buy a lead core already rigged with lead line and leader. You can’t go wrong.
NORTHERN PIKE:FAIR TO GOOD: Action still improving. Most are running 24 to 30 inches. Work the weed line along the overflow channel West of Stoll or the channel from Suckers Cove East to the wash out and then down to Lazy Boy. WE still like Howbert to Witchers and coves in between. Big sticks, big tubes and Spinner Baits have done well. Mid morning to early afternoon. Wind is your friend if you can handle it. Water gets murky fish get aggressive.
SPECIAL NOTE: 11 Mile Marina is located at the North Shore in Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George Colorado. A CPW Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the Park. Any fees for Guide/Outfitter/Rental services do not include Park fees, CO fishing license or gratuities.
The WEEKLY FISHING Report is produced by fishermen for fishermen. We try to get it done every Thursday but some times fishing or life gets in the way. So if its not there on Thursday morning it will show up by Friday. We appreciate all the support and acknowledge that many of you won't miss a week. Many Thanks. Oh and by the way there may not always be a fish pic.
