DO YOU LIKE TO ICE FISH OR DO YOU LOVE TO ICE FISH? As the season progresses and the mild Winter we have had turns to real Winter conditions become more challenging and difficult. Fresh snow makes trekking serious exercise. Thick ice makes dull blades a nightmare and moving to different spots becomes a chore. How much do you really like to ice fish? If you are a fair weather fisher person and like easy peasy ice fishing this sport may not be for you at this time of the season. If you are a diehard like us it means fewer anglers less pressure bigger fish. Imagine trekking out for Kokanee to the deep. Not fun but an ice salmon angler addicted to the fish hunt will pay the price. For those looking for easy peasy it still lives at the North Shore Marina. A short trek to fish and fun. Ice skating rink to keep the kids busy and barbecue grill on our deck for free use. It’s WINTER IN COLORADO and its time for ice fishing fun!! It will be Spring before you know it!
ICE FISHING PIC CONTEST: Send us your ice pics for a chance to win $50.00 in store credit and a chance at $100.00 Grand Prize. CURRENT CONDITIONS: It was a windy week. Warm weather brings wind. Cold not so much. Got a quick dump of about 6 to 8 inches last night here at the North Shore a little less up West. Plowed but snow packed roads

PIC # 1: Six Kokanee in less than 15 minutes. On this day the bite was 12:30PM
PIC # 2: Fresh snow…maybe this spot is good.
PIC # 3: No No follow me!
TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: Action is hit and miss but plenty of great fish being caught. At North Shore it is stocker action but a numbers game. The big ones are there. Shallow is easy access at spots like at Lazy Boy and Howbert and pretty decent. Deeper water may not be worth the effort until the fresh snow either settles down or blows away. Nightcralwer laying on the bottom might get you a big fish if you want to fish bait. Stay away from egg sacks for the time being the stockers are like piranha and tear them to pieces. The best approach is always two rods with one spoon and one micro jig or just bait. We have seen very big Trout cruising just below the ice while salmon fishing in 60 feet of water but they just move on by.
We like our 11 Mile Krystal Lazers and tiny Tots. You can almost always catch a fish on one of them. It just depends on the color de jour. Orange has been coming on lately as well as greens both dark and light. If the won’t hit your jig drop down to just the bait.
KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO GOOD: It’s only good if you get lucky and you only get lucky if you put in the time. Reports from the channel out from Deer Island are good with consistent opportunities. Fish seem to be traveling in multi verse groups. You can catch big ones or small ones out of the same grouping. Duck Island has not been as productive but North Shore out from the Marina has. Stop in and we will show you on the map where to try. Lots of different spoons have worked. We have caught fish on Kastmaster, Krocodile, Buck Shot Rattle and Swedish Pimple. Pic # 1 fish were 30 to 40 feet deep and hung out for long enough to ice six. The bite was excellent. Drop it pop it hit! No tip of bait no fish. Make sure you always have an offering. Kokannee Specific Guide Trips available.
NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Nothing like seeing a monster Northern pay you a visit. But they don’t always want a waterdog or if the do they are still leery. We have seen them suck and spit one out faster than you can imagine. If that happens on your tip up you would never know and never get a flag. Try fishing the dog on a rod in your shelter. Sometimes they will come in on the dfog and actually go for the Kastmaster. Go figure. Go Fish. Try North Shore, Witchers Cove, Howbert on the East side or Stoll in 8 feet of water or less.
SPECIAL NOTE: 11 Mile Marina is located at the North Shore in Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George Colorado. A CPW Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the Park. Any fees for Guide/Outfitter/Rental services do not include Park fees, CO fishing license or gratuities.
The WEEKLY FISHING REPORT is produced by fishermen for fishermen. We try to get it done every Thursday but some times fishing or life gets in the way. So if its not there on Thursday morning it will show up by Friday. We appreciate all the support and acknowledge that many of you won't miss a week but every now and then we might. Be Safe. Fish On!
