ICE FISHING PIC CONTEST: Winners will be announced next week
CURRENT CONDITIONS: All fishing access areas are open. A very tiny bit of open water at the West end where the river comes No shore fishing opportunity as of this report accept for that massive open spot at Witchers Cove seen in the pic above. Check back for regular updates as needed. Things can change daily but as of now its ice fishing or the river. We call the next few weeks TROPHY SEASON. If its on late ice or the earliest of water at the shore you can catch a fish of a life time. No boat required. As we have mentioned the earliest we have ever seen the lake open to boating was March 15 and the latest was May 10. The ice is thick but starting to candle from below. Lake level is still down.
Suppose to be super warm the next few days. Not much has changed here since last week.
THE COVID THE PARK THE MARINA UPDATE: The color dial has been modified. Park County is now blue. No restrictions on outdoor activities. Indoor dining is 50% of capacity. Retail outlets 50 to 75% of capacity. Go to Park County website for details.
COVID AND FISHING: Dr. Anthony Fauci announced today that there is a risk that Covid can be spread to Northern Pike and some Trout species. New guidelines encourage wearing masks when releasing any fish back into the water. Those that have been vaccinated should still wear a mask or two when handling fish. Apparently the Salmon at Eleven Mile are not effected by Covid since they are already dying of Gill Lice.

PIC # 1: This pic just showed up in the in box the other day. Don’t know who sent it who these guys are where they caught this fish. But it does look like we know what they caught it on. No fooling.
PIC # 2: Bryan Johnson, two time Colorado Classic Ice Masters Champion team of White/Johnson now the father son team Johnson/Johnson shows off this beautiful Cuttbow. He tried to disguise his location as everyone likes to keep their secret spots secret. Clearly this is the West side of the East End of Deer Island. Pic courtesy B. Johnson
PIC # 3: Where the river runs through it, A good look at where the river comes into the Mile. Just a couple days ago. Pic courtesy J. Johnston
PIC # 4: Massive open water at Witchers Cove. This live action shot shows the lake actually melting. Park office is selling special access tickets for the opportunity to be the first to fish any open water. Although we did hear that Mike Gonzales another former Colorado Classic Ice Masters champion has already purchased the limited number of special access passes. Pic courtesy J. Johnston
TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Late ice action is picking up as fish move through spawn mode. Not always hungry but often aggressive. They are taking bait off the bottom and jigs depending on the time of the day. Tube and marabou jigs working well. Stink em up with Pautzke Fire Gel. Couldn’t hurt. We have shrimp, crawfish and trout scents that all seem productive. Shallow water is where most of the trophy fish are. Try 3 to 5 feet at any sandy area around the Lake. We like Howbert, Lazy Boy, North Shore and Corral Cove. Trout Spawn sacks are highly effective. Sacks made from Eleven Mile fish eggs are illegal. Pautzke new Trout eggs are hot. We have some pre-tied sacks.
KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO GOOD: One thing is for sure if you are a dedicated salmon addict this season was acceptable to say the least. We did not get skunked once. Now we may have only caught one or two on some outings but the opportunities have consistently been there through out the Winter. Most Kokanee anglers don’t like to brag or give away their spots but we can assure you there have been full smokers at home. North Shore has been to good in 55 to 60 feet of water. Fish suspended 25 to 40. Rainbow 1/4oz Kastmaster was hot this week.
NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD: As predicted the late ice action is getting better by the day. Fish shallow for best results. Chartreuse is a good color this time of year. They are finicky most days but there have been some slam jam aggressive days too. Mid afternoon has been productive. North Shore , Stoll Mountain and Witchers Cove good places to try. If they hit your Trout rig just right and you are super lucky you might ice a monster. We have consistently seen over the years incredibly large Pike caught at ice off on Chartreuse Power Bait. Get ready!
