Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
While Scott Coghlan has not spent much time fishing for sooty grunter, they’re a hard-fighting fish which definitely has him hooked! Dinghy and small boat fishers have been getting among herring, skippy, garfish and squid within a couple of miles of the coast. Nannygai have been found near the islands along with queen snapper, breaksea cod and harlequin fish. Bigger nannygai were caught out wide where Samson fish to 30kg, yellowtail kingfish in the 6kg to 8kg range and sea sweep were also picked up.
Boat fishers off Bunbury haven't had to travel too far for pink snapper and fat skippy this past week, as shown by Brendan Stemp above. Reef fishing off the west coast of Cape Naturaliste has been productive on pink snapper, dhufish and breaksea cod when conditions have been suitable. More snapper have been caught within Geographe Bay off Busselton, where King George whiting and squid have also been picked up.
In case you missed it, deployment of the north metro artificial reef’s 293 modules at a safe and accessible spot 8km off Ocean Reef was complete last month. If you want to fish the reef in the future, find the coordinates here!
