Winter 2019/20 - Vermont Icefishing & NY Salmon River

Recent fun on the Hardwater!

We started off our winter after a break for fall deer season with some trips on the Salmon River targeting Steelhead! Persistent lake effect snow squalls and varying river flows had the ironheads pretty finicky. We did pick up a few in the upper river, while fishing in some of the heaviest lake effect squalls i have ever experienced! pretty cool non the less! As they say, " Classic steelhead weather!

Here in Vermont we started off the winter with steady cold air with some limited snow accumulation which began to produce good ice on the smaller lakes & ponds, especially in the higher elevations. Unfortunately right around the holidays we started a cycle in the jet stream that brought bouts of warm air & rain... not the ice fisherman's friend! This deteriorated the beginning ice on many larger lakes in the lower elevations, though waters above 1000 ft stayed solid & fish able. Some local lesser known bodies of water producing some TROPHY Northern Pike & Bass! Its mid February and we have just shy of 10 inches of snow on the ground here in the valley of Rutland county. All bodies of water have good safe ice, though not enough to support large vehicles. This means walking to most spots or fishing to closer road access areas. WE ARE PRODUCING FISH I filling the calendar! We will be running Ice trips into mid march as long as safe ice stays with us! Last week of March will find us resuming our Salmon River Trips, we do have a few prime April drop-back dates available so give us a shout! We are 80% full for our Hudson Striper dates....don't hesitate & miss out...give us a shout!
