Offshore: Today's conditions will be a bit choppy throughout the day with winds south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, tending east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots offshore and seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Tomorrow's conditions will improve throughout the morning so be ready to go, with winds east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots tending south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early morning. Winds tending north to northeasterly about 10 knots in the evening and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. Mackerel and tuna have been feeding on local reefs as well as sweetlip and snapper. The Noosa Kayak Fishing Challenge was held on Saturday. Contestants fished the Hall's Reef stretch, Jew Shoal and Sunshine Reef with with Spanish mackerel, spotted mackerel, grass sweetlip, longtail tuna and cobia making up the bulk of the catch. The competition winner, was Tim Kreis with a 157cm Spaniard. www.fishingnoosa.com.au Trekka 2 skipper Mitch Bertacchini, did a five hour trip to Sunshine Reef on last Wednesday in near perfect conditions. We caught plenty of fish despite having a couple of bananas on board. Coral trout, squire, grass emperor, spangled emperor, tusk fish and Moses perch. And we fished there again on Thursday morning. The fishing was pretty consistent the whole trip catching plenty of grass emperor and few squire and tusk fish. There was plenty of surface activity on the reef pretty much the whole trip with some large tuna seen jumping clean out of the water. Spanish mackerel from Currimundi Reef. Spotty and spanish mackerel from Coolum. Caloundra The Gneerings, Caloundra 5 and 12 mile reefs have had a few solid spanish mackerel as well as keeper snapper, grass emperor, spangled emperor, tusk fish and Moses perch.
Noosa: Trevally, flathead grunter bream and a few mangrove jack to 48cm in Woods Bays. Quality elbow slapper whiting with fish in the 40cm range and a few grunter throughout the lower river. Mud crabs on the move throughout the river.
Maroochydore: Plenty of bream and a few quality golden trevally on the making tide in the lower river. Whiting to 36cm in the lower river. Quality mangrove jack from the Cod Hole around the pylons. Flathead from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Plenty of buck mud crabs throughout the river.
Mooloolaba: Whiting and a few good grunter bream in Mountain creek and Kawana Canals. Estuary cod and bream from the Twin Bridges. Bream and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Mud crabs in the canals and lower river.
Caloundra: Trevally, bream and tarwhine between the bar and Coast guard Jetty. Flathead and grunter in Bells Creek. Mud crabs throughout the passage and in the creeks . Quality whiting on the banks out from Golden Beach.
(Three generations of local Sunshine Coast anglers) John, his Dad Ian and John's son Tom Thelander had a lovely day out fishing on the Maroochy River on Friday. For an over 40cm trevally, heaps of under size bream and Grunter released, keeper tarwhine, bream and whiting.
