ICE ON

THE WEEKLY FISHING REPORT “IT’S ABOUT THE CATCHING”

MARINA MARCH MADNESS CONTEST STUFF: It has been warm the last couple days but ice conditions remain great. All fishing must be done at the North Shore Marina area. Use your own equipment fish where ever you want straight out as far you like and East or West as long as you can get back to weigh station in a timely manner. There are three fishing sets or separate contests as we like to say lasting 2.5 hours each Cash prizes awarded for first fish, 1st 2nd 3rd place for each contest in addition to points toward the final grand prize. Weigh in required every two and half hours. One team member may continue fishing with other member weighing in fish. If team has no fish one team member must come in after each set to have contest id card punched. Trying to keep the playing field even so there will be a time when only one team member is fishing vs two. BFP is a random draw from big fish from each set. That means the BFP winner MAY NOT necessarily be the biggest fish. There have been cry babies in the past but this is how its been for 20 years. The goal is to a get a chip in the pot for the draw. THERE WILL BE NO BASKETBALL. Final rules given at check in. It is FUN FUN FUN. ITS MADNESS!! Check in begins at 5:00AM contest runs through approximately 2:30PM event over by 4:00PM

FISHING REPORT WEATHER STATION: The station is hooked up and you will see it at the bottom of the report. Camera to be hooked up soon. Since it will be on top of the building we are delaying a bit. Might be closer to Spring.

MARINA STORE HOURS SAT AND SUN 7:00AM - 4:30PM MONDAY - FRIDAY 8:00AM - 4:00PM During the week we may experience staff shortage and be unable to open.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Last few warm days have not done much to the ice primarily because it has been dead stick calm. Thickness running 18 to 23 inches. Stay away from the rocks as they absorb heat and the ice can get soft. No new snow but some in the forecast we will see. Murky water in some areas.

ELEVEN MILE STATE PARK IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH PARK NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA

WATER FLOW: 37.4 CFS IN 46.4 CFS OUT

WINTER ICE SKATING: We tested maintaining an ice skating area behind the Marina last Winter and it was well received. This year we will attempt to maintain one area for hockey with nets and one area just for skating.. In an effort to provide a non fishing Winter activity the Park has encouraged and supported our efforts. Last year families fished and skated for fun fun fun!!! We will be setting up Hockey Nets next week. Make Eleven Mile a stop on your search for skating. Its all about the fishing for most but for others its all about the skating!! Hockey nets are in!

We have hockey pucks, skate blade covers, skate laces and hockey stick tape in our store if needed.

MARINA STORE AND LAKE SPECIALISTS: Camping, Fishing Equipment, Flies, Lures, Bait, Clothing, Food, Snacks, Drinks, Ice Cream and official purveyors of Boars Head brand products. Stop in and find out how we can help you catch. Get a topo map. They say information is gold. It's also critical to catching fish on the ice. The maps have GPS coordinates on them so you just can't miss. We want you to be successful here at the Mile. Get a map we will MARK IT UP with the hot spots. WE ARE HERE FISHING EVERYDAY AND CAN PUT YOU ON THE FISH.

PIC # 1: MARINA MARCH MADNESS THIS SATURDAY. YOU CAN SIGN UP DAY OF CONTEST.

PIC # 2: A great family outing with Salmon and a big Trout caught on the bottom in deep water. They were straight out from the Marina approximately 400 yards. One of the kokes was a leftover 4 year old spawner. CPW refers to them as “jacks” and a few more than usual have shone up this season. Pic courtesy J. Davis

PIC # 3: Nice catch! pic courtesy C. Everhart

PIC # 4: Marina Guide Alex on his day off straight out from North Shore Marina 2:00PM

PIC # 5: You can only find these at the 11 Mile Marina Store and maybe something like them at Valley Country Tackle in Aurora. Say hi to Louise.

TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: Murky water in some areas reported. Particularly Sucker Cove and Cross Creek. With the river so close and melting snow around the lake murky conditions are a sign of Spring is around the corner. Deeper water sees clearer water. Large spawners are moving in close but the pic above shows a very nice Trout caught on the bottom in almost 60 feet of water. Lots of different baits working stop in for latest info.

KOKANEE SALMON: GOOD TO EXCELLENT: The epic bite continues. At this point you can catch them with out a jigging machine but electronics is really a must. You can jig Kastmaster and Swedish Pimples and bring them in. They wont stick around like they would if you had a jigging machine but you can bring them back with vigorous jigging action. Kastmaster GNR was hot last week but these finicky fish seem to change daily. Duck Deer Island still good as well as North Shore. Saturday may not be the best day to hit the North Shore because the contest fishing is restricted to that area. You can walk past the crowd but parking may be tight. Some folks have called to book Guide trips but did not leave there phone number first any were cut off. So we definitely could not call you back

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Good luck finding a waterdog. Success is being had by those that use the right size sucker with the proper presentation. It’s all about presentation and patience. Look to 10 feet of water or less. We have the proper suckers and will show you how to rig them. Other baits include large tube jigs in white or chartreuse, One oz Kastmasters with a bucktail and piece of sucker or an accidental trout bait..you just never know. Stoll and Howbert have been good of late. Mid morning through mid afternoon.

SPECIAL NOTE: 11 Mile Marina is located at the North Shore in Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George Colorado. A CPW Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the Park.  Any fees for Guide/Outfitter/Rental services do not include Park fees, CO fishing license or gratuities.

The WEEKLY FISHING REPORT is produced by fishermen for fishermen. We try to get it done every Thursday but some times fishing or life gets in the way. So if its not there on Thursday morning it will show up by Friday. We appreciate all the support and acknowledge that many of you won't miss a week but every now and then we might.
