Week of May 26th fishing report

The striped bass fishing this past week was outstanding with big bass reported all throughout Cape Cod. Slot size striped bass are being caught and released in big numbers and a friend and I worked the very late night outgoing tide of a south facing beach and hit it big with 15 slot size bass between 28 and 30 inches.  We are also seeing and getting reports of some big bluefish lurking around as well. With Memorial Day weekend just ahead the Cape is going to be a very busy place so if you need any fishing supplies Amy and her staff are ready and waiting to help you with the best lures, bait and information for your next Cape Cod fishing trip. Pictured here are Carl and Nick and their beautiful catches.

Sports Port’s, Ben S., was kayak fishing Buzzards Bay earlier this week when he safely caught and released his new striped bass PB! Congrats to Ben on an awesome 48” striped bass. This beautiful fish was caught on top water and undoubtedly took him on a fun “Nantucket Sleigh Ride” in his kayak before being put back into the water to swim another day.

Ben’s new PB: 48: Striped Bass

Striper fishing on the Northside has produced slot sized and bigger class fish out by the bell buoy. Mackerel has been tough to find. Several anglers have reported jigging for over an hour and ending up with only a few mackerel .
Black seabass has started the season strong! Anglers are catching keeper sized black seabass in Nantucket Sound and there are BIG scup mixed in.
Good sized blue fish are moving through the Canal as well as the Southside of the Cape. South Cape Beach and Oregon have produced blues in the 8-10lb range.
This is certainly a fun time of year to be an angler on the Cape. Get out there and you will likely have tight lines!
