Fishing Report: Port Mansfield March/April 2011

Fishing in Port Mansfield has been off the charts for most of March and April, the only exception being the strong winds (40+mph).  Three to Four pound trout are common and flounder are making a major return to our bays.   We had over eight caught in one day, all being nice 17 inchers.  Trout in the 25-28 inch class have also been caught with some regularity.  Tides have recently brought in some beautiful water and along with the water came with it the bait.  Large schools (pods) of mullet can be found nearly everywhere.  Fish are very active and can be caught easily on top waters and soft plastics.  The fish have been found shallower than deeper and are hanging around grass patches. 
We’ve been throwing Kelley Wigglers 4 inch paddle tails in strawberry / white, Carolina pumpkinseed / chartreuse, and the Ball Tail Shad plum blue metal flake / chartreuse.  A few of us are currently field testing a new color in the 4 inch paddle tail; On Saturday April 2 I personally had my days limit of reds and trout, on one wade with one bait. 
We haven’t worn waders the last two weeks, so it’s a sign warm weather is upon us so put your waders away.
