Broome catches
Maxi Sampson @max_out_fishing has been finding some very impressive fish lately around Broome and this lovely threadfin was landed during one of the calmer weather windows this week. Thankfully 'not a catfish' as he puts it.

Boats

Barramundi activity picked up with Dampier and Crab creeks and the Fingers all producing decent-sized fish with trolled vibe lures proving effective. A few threadfin salmon were still about and blue-nosed salmon have been in good numbers right at the creek mouths. Mud crabs were in good numbers as well with Crab Creek one of the hotspots. Further out in Roebuck Bay Spanish mackerel averaging a metre have been around but have preferred to stay deep in the water column, with many of the Spaniards caught on jigs. Northern mulloway have been harder to find around the lumps in the bay but a few fingermark have been caught on the edge of the Deeps. Tomorrow and Sunday morning should be quite pleasant on the water with gentle westerly winds combined with a one metre swell.

Shore-based

The Port Jetty offered decent queenfish and trevally, while barramundi have been lurking around the pylons but most of the hooked fish have managed to bust-off. Entrance Point held good numbers of whiting on the sandy stretches, along with queenfish and trevally around the drop-offs and ledges. The Town Beach Jetty produced bream, javelin fish and small trevally and queenfish. Crab Creek was the pick of the creeks to fish with barramundi hitting shallow-diving, hard-bodied lures cast around structure. Plenty of anglers have been targeting the Fitzroy River but only a few reports of barramundi have trickled in. Get in while the weather is decent this weekend as some stronger south-westerly winds will roll through from Monday arvo onwards. For the best tips and gear for your fishing expedition, make sure you visit the helpful pros at Tackle World Broome for advice and they will provide details on spots with the best access for a flick.
Exmouth catches
Celebrating a honeymoon in style! Recently married couple Eligh and Maddy Quigley jumped aboard @onstrikecharters this week and the Gulf has been astounding for catches, with these two cobia complimenting the solid golden trevally and tuna landing on the deck.

Boats

After a sluggish start some good catches were recorded in the Exmouth Billfish Bonanza held last weekend, with black marlin, sailfish and blue marlin in decent numbers on the west side, along with sailfish in the Gulf and around the Muirons. On Strike Charter's Captain Flynch team including first mate Dan Charsley took out the major prize, coming home with a wet sail on the final day of the competition. Sailfish have been active at the top of the Gulf, while around the shoals blue-lined and spangled emperor and coral trout have been caught along with queenfish and shark, school and Spanish mackerel. The 60-250m depths out west fished best for sails and blacks with blue marlin out towards the 400m mark. Closer in dolphinfish were among the bycatch. Goldband snapper were around the 100m depth mark with ruby snapper in the 200m+ depths. The back of Ningaloo Reef fished well for Spanish mackerel and blue-lined emperor, with red-throat emperor and spangled emperor also in good numbers. Helby Bank held coral trout, Rankin cod and small red emperor. Out towards Peak Island Spanish mackerel catches have been common, while Rankin cod, red emperor and coral trout have been landed in good numbers. Saturday and Sunday morning don't look too bad at this stage but it will become very nice and glassy throughout next week on the water with lower winds and swell expected.

Shore-based

Learmonth fished best for squid this week as catches start to slow down with the warmer weather. The jetty also offered whiting, bream, small trevally and queenfish at times. At the Bundegi flats giant herring have made an appearance and were often mixed in with schools of small trevally and queenfish. The flats there have been holding whiting as well. In the marina, mangrove jack, bream, small trevally and javelin fish have been the main catches. VLF Bay up towards the Lighthouse and Mildura Wreck offered small giant trevally, queenfish, spangled emperor and the odd bluebone, while Tantabiddi held queenfish and blue-lined emperor. Big thanks to the great crew from Tackle World Exmouth for their tips!

Kalbarri catches
We would have the same look on our face if our second tailor ever caught was over one metre and on fly! Skilled fishers @angus_line and @paris_sienna_ continued their incredible run of monster tailor this week, consistently finding the monsters that would eat chopper tailor in the choppy conditions. Amazing fishing.

Boats

It’s been pretty quiet offshore unfortunately again this week, with weather not lining up for a proper send. Locals have been dropping a few craypots with decent results and the odd boat has targeted sand whiting in Jakes Bay to good effect, but there’s been little interest in targeting pelagic species. It doesn't mean they aren't out there and while the conditions aren't ideal this weekend, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning could hold good windows. Land-based fishing has been red hot though, so maybe try switching it over and try your luck from the beaches.

Shore-based

Once again shore fishing saved the day. Shore fishers have had a cracking week, particularly on tailor which have been firing in the mornings at Red Bluff and Wittecarra where quite a few fish have been hitting the 50cm mark. Red Bluff also offered just-sized pink snapper, while the coastal gorges have produced bigger pinkies, solid tailor and baldchin groper. There was plenty of pink snapper action at Wagoe, where big tailor and mulloway have also been caught. The action was good in the Murchison River too, with big tailor landed at the river mouth, Sand Spit and Marina Jetty in the evenings. Bream and cod are still about and decent numbers of mud crabs have been supplemented by a few blue swimmer crabs in the mix. The Sand Spit and the foreshore also held plenty of whiting, which in addition to taking small prawn and squid baits have been smashing surface poppers. Sunday morning could bode well for a flick with the easterly winds aiding casting into the 2m swell. Big thanks to Dean from Kalbarri Sports and Dive for his tips as always!
Geraldton catches

Boats

Not much to report on unfortunately with rougher conditions making it tough. There’s been little interest from crews chasing pelagic species, while poor water clarity has prevented dinghy fishers from targeting squid and whiting. This week is looking rather rough as well with stronger winds and swells, but land-based fishing has been rather rewarding, so not all is lost. At least you'll save on fuel by keeping the sand between your toes this week.

Shore-based

Tailor catches continued to improve at the north and south sides of Coronation where the weed started to clear. The tailor are in the 30-50cm range and not prolific, but nevertheless good healthy fish and plenty of fun. In the bay at Drummonds Cove big herring have been active, especially around the Sand Bags, while south of the Scout Hall whiting have been in good numbers when there is no weed about. At the south end of the bay in the same area there was a good mix of tailor, herring and pike. Higher morning tides have probably ended reef fishing at Drummonds, which had been producing tailor, herring and just-sized pink snapper. The Batavia Coast Marina’s north side was again the most accessible spot for a feed of squid, although the small groyne north of the marina has also produced decent squid, along with herring and the odd tailor. In town, the groynes in front of the Town Beach coffee shops produced mixed bags of chopper tailor, good herring and whiting. Tarcoola Beach has been patchy but it did produce small tailor in the mornings, while Greys Bay enjoyed a good run of mixed-sized tailor earlier in the week. The Greenough River mouth also held a few tailor, while south at West Bank a mulloway of around 19kg was landed along with some solid tailor. Tailor in a mix of sizes have also come from Lucy's. There was quite a bit of action in Dongara too, where the platform north of the marina produced school mackerel, tailor and a least one cobia of a metre was lost on the rocks there. Beaches south of Dongara have generally been reliable for a feed of big whiting. There are some strong south-easterly winds and swells hanging around this weekend but there should still be some spots where you can wet a line. Big thanks to Geraldton Sports Centre for their report as always!
Lancelin catches
While they aren't the pink snapper or mulloway that fishers usually have their hearts set on, these white spotted guitarfish save you from going to the gym for the week by giving you a tremendous fight. Robbie Riches @robbie_riches landed this solid fish before taking a quick snap and releasing it to fight another day.

Boats

Last Saturday was very windy for the Lancelin Angling and Aquatic Club ‘squid shootout’. Despite the fast drift, anglers scored some great catches from the bays shallow seagrass beds. Competitors returning to the clubhouse for a lunch time cook up, which went down a treat. Offshore anglers have been catching southern bluefin and skipjack tuna in decent sizes and numbers. There was plenty of plump sand whiting from around the 20m depths, though northwest blowfish have been a nuisance on the whiting grounds. Make sure you use pliers to de-hook these pesky fish because their ugly buck teeth make short work of hooks and fingers. Small boats and kayaks fishing the bay have been catching some decent herring, with most catches coming from the southern end of the bay, while the broken ground has resulted in some very good flathead crossing the 50cm mark. The moderate to strong south-easterly winds and 2m swell are sticking around this weekend and conditions aren't expected to ease back until at least Thursday.

Shore-based

Herring have been plentiful in the evenings off the jetty and have been making a comeback along the beaches, with some 30cm plus bull herring taking bigger baits cast for tailor. Surf beaches have been fishing well for tailor with most fish now around the 40cm mark. Lures such as the Richter Sickbait and CiD Shiverstick are great for enticing the strikes closer to the surface. School mulloway have been caught from gutters and small sharks have taken baits in the evenings. Sunday morning until around midday looks best for a land-based fish this weekend. Big thanks to Peter Fullarton for his tips as always and make sure you check out his Tailored Treks fishing tours!

Esperance catches
It might have been a big drive, but it resulted in a big fish for @swino_95 who landed this impressive mulloway this week!

Boats

'Blowvember' has arrived with a vengeance so boaties will need to be flexible and cash in when weather windows pop up. When the conditions allowed it this week, good nannygai came from Figure of Eight Island, while the Middle Island Fishing Crew landed quite a few harlequin fish and big queen snapper at Lion Island. Good snook have been in Esperance Bay and a few tuna have been hanging around Long Island. There were plenty of squid on the drift between the port rock wall and the Town Jetty and squid were also plentiful in 16-20m depths at Cook Rocks. Big sand whiting have also been caught off Fourth Beach. While the swell will remain at 2m, the raging easterly winds will continue throughout this week, so look for sheltered areas behind the islands or the mainland if ducking out.

Shore-based

Thomas River was a hot spot for mulloway up to 10kg, with small gummy sharks mixed in and no shortage of salmon and big skippy, while Poison Creek was the go-to spot for good numbers of 70-80cm mulloway. Dunns Beach held salmon and skippy, while Lucky Bay produced salmon and big herring. The Bandy Creek Boat Harbour was firing for smallish King George whiting and bigger flathead up to 60cm. Salmon and Fourth beaches fished best for salmon, while the Town and Taylor Street jetties have produced squid at night with Taylor Street seeing big herring during the day. Bream have been taking soft plastic lures at Woody Lake, with most fish around the 35cm mark. Big thanks to Southern Sport & Tackle for their report as always!

Great Southern catches
A heads up to all South-West and southern-based fishers with the latest heads up from the Bureau of Meteorology. You'll catch just as many fish off the beach, so keep the sand between your toes. Visit http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/ for more forecast details.

Boats

Glamour conditions later in the week tempted crews out to the continental shelf where they targeted hapuka, blue-eyed trevalla and nannygai with good results. They were pretty secretive about their catches but apparently nannygai were plentiful. Closer in the weather has been reasonable enough to allow boats to make quick runs out to the coral ground where they encountered pink and queen snapper, breaksea cod, dhufish and harlequin fish. Crews that launched off Bremer Bay earlier this week caught similar species. In King George Sound squid have been plentiful but King George whiting catches have been down. Tomorrow is expecting moderate easterly winds with 2m swell but the winds will start to spike from Sunday right throughout next week.

Shore-based

We recommend keeping the sand between your toes if fishing this weekend off the land given BoM's warning above. Squid catches have been excellent from the shore in close though, with the better spots including Middleton Beach, the town marina, Emu Point and Frenchman Bay. Frenchman Bay and Emu Point have also fished well for herring and King George and sand whiting, while the town marina held herring and small skippy. Bream activity has improved in the King and Kalgan rivers and mulloway have started to fire in the system as well. Beach fishing has generally been hard work for only modest returns. When the swells have been down small tuna and Samson fish have been landed from the stones, but don't attempt this today and tomorrow with the swell period of 14-16 seconds and 3-4 metres making it too risky. Wilson Inlet held King George whiting and flathead and the Nornalup Inlet at Walpole offered herring and yellowfin whiting. Big thanks to the crew from Trailblazers in Albany for their tips!

South West catches
Some decent crays have been doing the rounds recently around the reef ledges and the crew from @salt_water_addiction made the most of it. Remember to let all crays that are berried or have tarspots go to keep the breeding cycle going.

Boats

Off Bunbury crews have been having fun on arm-stretching Samson fish on top-water lures. They have been using burley which has brought around solid skippy and a few yellowtail kingfish before the Sambos crash the party. Ocean’s Legacy Keeling stickbaits have worked well, as have the new Ocean’s Legacy Keeling Pops. Closer in a few tuna are still kicking around and still showing a liking for small stickbaits and Halco Twistys. Squidding has been good on both sides of Bunbury and the edges of the weed have also produced decent King George whiting and sand whiting. Squid have been plentiful in Geographe Bay, with many in depths between 3-7m. King George whiting catches there have also been good and a great tactic is chasing squid first then using small strips of their tentacles as fresh bait. Crayfishers who have been dropping pots in 8-10m depths have found sizes to be small, but divers working the ledges in 20m have found slightly bigger specimens. The moderate south-easterly winds will stick around this week but the swells will remain quite low.

Shore-based

Yellowfin whiting have fired up in the estuaries and were caught on vibes and small top-water lures such as Bassday Suga Pens and Gladiator Smash Poppers. There were also plenty of chopper tailor and herring around the drop-offs and at the Collie River mouth. The river held a few bream and soapy mulloway catches there have improved. Chopper tailor and herring have been at the Bunbury Cut and the rock walls fished well for the same species. A big mulloway was also landed at Mindalong this week. From Preston Beach heading south herring and chopper tailor have been the main fare. Squid catches were exceptional at Busselton Jetty, along with good numbers of herring, while squid baits fished of the end of the jetty have accounted for big Samson fish. Along the sheltered beaches of Geographe Bay sand and yellowfin whiting catches have started to improve and a feed of herring can usually be found with a bit of burley. In Augusta the lower Blackwood River offered herring and yellowfin whiting, while Alexandra Bridge fished well for bream. Should be decent land-based fishing conditions this weekend albeit with the moderate south-easterly winds. Kudos to the crew from Whitey's Tackle for their tips!

@antsimper and his kids had a fantastic weekend exploring the South-West fresh waterways which included Drakesbrook Weir and helping Recfishwest release hundreds of trout into Big Brook Dam. The highlight was definitely this lovely broodstock rainbow landed in one of the shallow streams!
Harvey Dam fished well in the late-afternoon bubble with small redfin perch smashing all sorts of small lures, while small rainbow trout breaking the surface have been harder to tempt. Good redfin and small rainbows have been caught at Wellington Dam and Honeymoon Pool held small rainbows and decent redfin. Rainbow trout have been caught in the Blackwood River, while small rainbows came from Lefroy Brook, Big Brook and Cascades. Redfin perch have been in good numbers and sizes all around the Pemberton region along with a few rainbow trout. Big Brook Dam produced the occasional trout, but they have been gorging on the flying ants that were in plague proportions in the afternoons, making fishing a tough battle. If you catch any great trout or redfin, make sure you message us a snap of the catch to our Instagram page @recfishwest.
Mandurah and surrounds
@rhys_bulloch and his pal got onto some bicep-burning Sambos this week off Mandurah, with a good spike in this hard-fighting species off the coast in the past few weeks.

Mandurah

Some excellent yellowfin whiting sessions have been enjoyed in the estuary but catches have been patchy and a bit of prospecting is often required. The best results have come from finding the right areas of weed, preferably dotted with worm holes. At this stage, small vibe lures have proved the most effective but poppers are starting to account for more fish as the yellowfin whiting begin to switch their diet from worms to prawns. By far the most dominant species in the estuary at the moment is tailor and good numbers of 35-40cm choppers have been aggressively smashing trolled lures in the channels and drop-offs. Herring have been a plentiful bycatch and a few juvenile salmon have popped up from time to time. Bream are another species that have moved into the estuary’s canals and marinas after wintering in the Serpentine and Murray rivers. Good tailor and herring are also being caught from the Dawesville Cut which fished well for squid in the afternoons. It could also be worth trying for squid around the weed banks at Melros and Falcon. The Mandurah traffic bridges offered small chopper tailor and herring. Bigger tailor up to 50cm have been caught from beaches south of town and herring have been hanging around as well. Divers heading out from shore to chase crayfish spotted schools of chunky yellowfin whiting, while pot droppers have been targeting crays in 5-10m depths to good effect. The 30m depths have fished well for King George whiting, while sand whiting have been plentiful inside the Five-Fathom Bank. Tuna have been in good numbers on the 40m depth line and also the 25m line, while lumps on the 40m line have fished well for Samson fish and a few yellowtail kingfish. Moderate to high easterlies this week might make it choppy on the water with a 1m swell. Make sure you pay a visit to the great crew from Tackle World Miami for the best tips and gear!

SECRET HARBOUR / PORT KENNEDY / ROCKINGHAM / SAFETY BAY / WARNBRO SOUND

Squid activity quietened but a bit of perseverance in Warnbro and Cockburn Sound, Mangles Bay and around Garden Island usually paid off. King George and sand whiting have been in good numbers and often mixed in together, with the better spots for them in both sounds, Mangles Bay and Parmelia Bank. Small tuna have been active behind the Five-Fathom Bank, while tailor catches have been good around Stragglers and Mewstones. Behind Garden Island some tailor up to 60cm have been smashing trolled shallow-diving Halco Laser Pros. As for land-based fishing, solid numbers of tailor have been achieved at night from beaches in the Secret Harbour and Port Kennedy area by anglers using light paternoster rigs and there have been whispers of a couple of good mulloway landed as well. The same beaches have held herring and good numbers of sand whiting in the daytime, while at Shoalwater Bay small King George whiting have been caught. Squid, herring and chopper tailor have been the main fare at Woodman Point, the Ammo Jetty and Rockingham and Palm Beach jetties, while decent tailor, herring and whiting have come from Long Point. At the Penguin Island spit there have been a few whiting about and flathead catches have improved. Sunday should be best if you're thinking of having a fish but expect it to be windy and choppy. Big thanks to Compleat Angler Rockingham for their tips!
Perth catches
This great fishing event kicks off tomorrow, with the Fremantle Sailing Club's Angling Section holding their King George Classic! Members and non-members are welcome to participate and you can either scan the QR code above or click here for more details. Get in early for your entry to make it easier for the club officials!

Boats

Plenty of boats have been seeking out likely lumps ahead of the Fremantle Sailing Club’s King George Classic this weekend and have found KG's quite widespread. Rottnest Island fished well for them, including in the bays, as has the back of Windmills. King George whiting have also been in good numbers off Hillarys. Tuna catches have been in high numbers north and south of Rottnest with the bigger fish up to 5kg on the northern side. Most boats have been looking for diving seabirds or just taking pot luck along the 40m line, but keeping an eye out for current lines is a good start. This can usually be seen by what looks like oil slicks on the surface or keeping an eye out for weed which generally flows in these currents. Tuna have been taken off Mindarie and Hillarys as well. Sand whiting were in good numbers, mixed in with the King George at Windmills and further north in around 7m depths off Swanbourne and City Beach, with some decent flathead among the bycatch. Squid have been harder to find but most boats have managed to get a feed out from South Fremantle and inshore at Mindarie. In the Swan River it has been relatively easy to pick up a feed of choppers when trolling, especially around Point Resolution and the Point Walter spit. Sunday is likely the better of the two days this weekend regarding conditions with moderate south-easterlies and a low swell, but the conditions should become calmer throughout this week.

Shore-based

The number of tailor caught in both the Swan River and ocean have been widespread and in good sizes, with the past few weeks one of the best tailor runs we've seen in recent memory. Lures such as Richter Sickbaits, CiD Shiversticks and Oceans Legacy Sling Shots have you covered. Snap credit: @EliMitter.

Good catches of tailor have come from the lower and middle reaches of the Swan River around the drop-offs and from jetties, where big schools of baitfish have been enticing surface strikes and bust-offs. Small surface lures have been working well on them and some of the better spots have been East Fremantle, North Fremantle, Claremont, the Narrows, Applecross, Canning Bridge and Point Walter. Giant herring have also started to show up more regularly, with a few seen mooching around the Como flats, while up around Belmont they have been mixed in with mullet schools. Bream fishing also picked up, especially at night around lights and structure. Better bream spots have included the Causeway, Burswood and Garratt Road Bridge. In the Canning River bream have made their way up to Riverton. A few soapy mulloway have been among them and one mulloway pushing a metre was landed at Canning Bridge this week. Flathead fishers have been doing well with the north side of the river starting to come into its own around Claremont and Mosman Park, but good catches have also come from Applecross and Canning Bridge and from the Burswood flats. In Mosman Park fishers were disappointed with the size of flathead last Sunday but delighted with good numbers of chunky dinner-plate flounder they landed on imitation prawns. In the ocean, North Mole offered a few herring when burley was used and chopper tailor have been caught at dusk and night. South Mole produced a few herring too and the yacht club rock walls fished reasonably well for squid despite sizes being down. At Rottnest Island, King George whiting up to 50cm have been taken from bays and jetties. The north metro beaches around Floreat and Trigg saw chopper tailor and herring, while herring and tarwhine have been caught at City Beach. Sunday morning through to midday at this stage looks best for land-based fishing but it should become much calmer on the water as the week progresses. Best of luck if you're heading out and big thanks to Anglers Fishing World in Freo for their tips!
