Editing of Friday's column removed a section that made it appear the catches 30 bass by Fintastic and six on That's It were taken during the slow fishing Saturday rather than the hot bite on Tuesday. The missing section referring to bass fishing after Saturday follows:

That was "wild" fishing compared to what I saw Memorial Day while running up the coast after the thunder storm from Manasquan with Joe Reap of Ramsey on his Reaper. Joe Farrell of Ramsey was also along as we struggled to snag a dozen bunkers. Then it was dead at the Rocks, though I did manage to release one bass from among the increasing numbers of dogfish.

Yet, as dead as it looked that day, most of those who got out Tuesday had great striper fishing. Dave Lilly of Hazlet lost a bass well over 40 pounds just behind the boat while trolling Esca-enhanced Tony Maja bunker spoons at the Rocks before switching to live bunkers that were still producing at noon. He limited and put Lenny Palumbo of Westfield into three bass in the thirties.

Capt. Ron Santee of the Fishermen had just gone through several days of "more than tough" striper fishing when Tuesday's bass exploded. In addition to the youngster's 44-pounder already noted, Tom Krako took over the lead in the seasonal pool with a 31-pound striper.
