Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.

Sorry for the delay in getting this blog out. Went to Klein's Restaurant in Belmar for an early dinner with the family, and ran into a surprise 75th birthday party for me with family from Florida and long Island plus skippers and friends from all over. Quite a shock, since my actual birthday was on June 1 -- and I'd forgotten all about it.
Capt. Jimmy Elliott of Miss Belmar Princess reports night bluefishing is building up. Despite a fast drift Friday night in a 15-to-20-mph northwest wind, there was a steady pick of blues on the west side of the Mud Hole. Experienced anglers managed 10 to 15, and there was no dogfish problem.
There were lots of bunkers all along the Shore today. Betty & Nick's in Seaside Park put out a notice that a massive school was located off the park. John Bushell noted that five bass over 30 pounds were weighed in between Friday night and this morning. Capt. Dave DeGennaro of Hi-Flier was at the party, and reported there weren't many bass under those bunkers, though his customer managed one. Tony Arcabascio of Bayville said he exercised his Tony Maja spoons to catch a couple of big bass the day before after finding the only productive bunker school off the park -- and catching lots of stripers off it on the live baits.
There were lots of bunkers off Sandy Hook early this morning as Roger Porter of McAfee hosted Archie Tajima and Nick Mihara of Yokohama, Japan plus Mike Quinlan from Flemington on Sheri Berri from Baker's Marina on the Bay in Highlands. I started snagging bunkers while Capt. Hans Kaspersetz threw the net on readings as we drifted. Stripers were scattered, but we did manage two up to 39 inches and lost two others before boat traffic killed the action. Boaters running further south to Shrewsbury Rocks found little action there. Capt. Sal Cursi of Cathy Sea at Sewaren had famed castnet manufacturer Percy Wentworth aboard, and he caught their only striper. That was quite a change from the hot action of the day and evening before.
