Hot yellowfins in canyons

Early summer canyon trolling is as good as it's likely to get right now. Capt. Early summer canyon trolling is as good as it's likely to get right now. Capt. Lou Grazioso of Striper Mania joined the crew on Sarah B. out Seaside Park today as they trolled three yellowfins in the 30-to-40-pound class in Lindenkohl Canyon on Canyon Runner spreader bars -- and also broke off a big blue marlin that's still running away with a rainbow bar. Grazioso said the Canyon Runner and Gemini also fought much larger yellowfins out there.

The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported slower bluefishing today than during Tuesday's trip, but everyone still jigged a few big blues up to 15 pounds. Tuesday's magic hours striper trip was excellent after two recent sub-par evening ventures. Over 35 stripers were caught, including the boat's largest for the season -- a 48-pounder by Ken D'Andrea. The action was on both live and dead bunkers.

Capt Bob Egger reports he had Shep Belyea and John Shuster on Spunky II, out of Manasquan Inlet, for a Tuesday run to Chicken Canyon.  Those anglers went 9 for 11 on the 40-to-50-pound bluefins, keeping one and tagging the others in 2/1/2 hours.  Mate Brian Shortino brought along his 11 year old, Nick Shortino of Toms
River, who caught a 50-pound class bluefin all by himself from the bridge rocket
launcher -- then went to the pit to place a tag in his own fish prior to
release.
