Capt. Scotty Hilliard reports his evening bluefishing on Prowler V from Atlantic Highlands has been hot as jumbos come up from 5 to 7 p.m. offshore of the Rattlesnake to provide super jig fishing for choppers from 12 to 16 pounds during his dailey late afternoon trip.
Capt. Jim O'Grady of the Cock Robin from Point Pleasant didn't find any blues to the north, and not many to the south with his Cock Robin from Point Pleasant. He ended up sliding off to the east, and stayed late to put some blues aboard.
Striped bass had been below bunker schools off the south shore of Long Island for a couple of weeks, but there was no sign of them this morning. The bunker schools were there in a NW breeze, and one boat had a thresher shark tied alongside, but I never saw a bass caught. Capt. Vinny Vetere of Katfish from Great Kills had been catching bass there during evening trips until striking out this morning.
