Allen Riley of South Plainfield was happy to see some 1-to-2-pound bluefish when he fished early Wednesday morning in the Sandy Hook surf, but it wasn't until later in the day that he found out his friends who stayed after he left got into the first surf bluefish blitz I've heard of this year at around 9:30 a.m. The blues were small. but Lou Vargas of Fanwood and John Pernal from Pa. limited on the best eating size choppers.
Capt. John Kolias of Reel Fun at Sea Bright said fluking in Ambrose Channel wasn't as good as it had been, but there was still plenty of action as his party ended up with six keepers.
Capt. Scotty Hilliard of Prowler V at Atlantic Highlands said fluking has been good for his boat in the ocean, in the Fishermen's Buoy area.
Capt. Chris DeStefano of Wall talked to a boater who fished the Atlantic Princess and Chicken Canyon, but found only green water and one small folphin.
