Capt. Arthur Stokes returned to Clarks Landing in Point Pleasant today with a 190-pound bigeye tuna trolled on his Fintastic along with seven albacore. The overnighter also produced two yellowfin tuna of about 65 and 70-to-80 pounds chunking plus a dozen tilefish during a single drift. Fintastic is running open reservations on days when the boat isn't chartered. Call Stokes at 908 752-5219.

Capt. Howard Bogan Jr. reported another good canyon trip with his Jamaica from Brielle. The Tuesday sailing started with lots of dolphin up to 17 pounds before some tuna moved in. The first blast was unexpected -- four bigeyes. One was lost quickly, and another was fought almost to the boat before the hook pulled on an estimated 300-pounder. Two anglers from Middlebury Ct. managed to boat bigeyes -- a 165-pounder for Ron Hoyt, and a 125-pounder by Ron Taurick.  The anchor went over just before sunset, and some 50-to-70-pound yellowfins were hooked, A 300-pound swordfish was lost, but two to 125 pounds were boated. Tuna fishing was off-and-on at night, before albacore hit just before dawn. The Jamaica has a 30-hour canyon trip departing at 7 a.m. Thursday, and 21-hour trips at 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Call 732 528-5014 for reservations.

Capt. Dave DeGennaro is netting live peanut bunkers to take to the Mud Hole on his Hi-Flier from Barnegat in order to sniff out bluefins, little tunny and bonito. Open reservations are available for 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. trips Friday and Sunday. Call 732 330-5674.

Capt. Scotty Hilliard had a very good day with porgies on his Prowler V from Atlantic Highlands. Catches ran up to 35 a man, and Hilliard said everyone got the one tautog they're allowed at present. The boat's Saturday night charter produced lots of big blues at the Mud Buoy.

The big swell has made surfcasting difficult, but Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant has been weighing in some bass taken recently on plugs in the surf -- mostly north of Manasquan Inlet.   Roy Hartley of Point Pleasant caught two up to 31 inches; Terry Martescelli of Brick weighed a 15 3/4-pounder; John Lorton from Belmar had a 12 5/16-pounder; and Lori Cantrall of Howell weighed a 14 1/8-pounder from Point Pleasant Beach. Joe Milko of Brick used metal for a 34-incher at Sea Girt, and Stew Gartner of Ortley had a 14 3/8-pound bass on a needlefish at Bay Head. Joe Melillo says blackfishing with green crabs has been super in Point Pleasant Canal.
