“Speckled trout have been hanging in the deeper waters just off the grass flats where the water drops to five to eight feet of water. They have been hanging over shell and grass mixed bottom. Live shrimp is working really well, but live threadfins and scaled sardines have been working great. Trout up to 21 inches with most of the fish in the 15-18 inch range have been coming to the boat. The irregular winter weather pattern has them on the move. If you regularly fish, you may have to search and move from the previous outing’s spots. The main thing I see as a regular pattern, is the good quantities of trout I’m finding in deeper water. Grass flats and the deeper drop offs around the Sunshine Skyway flats have been holding good trout along with Fort Desoto and Tierra Verde,” reports Capt.
