July 1St Is Scallop Season

Well everybody it is all most time to get those tasty scallops. Scallop season starts July 1st and ends on September 10Th, Scalloping is very easy and fun for the hole family. When looking for scallops you want to look in 3 to 6 feet of water around grass and sand bottom. Snorkeling is they way to go along the Nature coast but some people do use dive tanks for them or hookah rigs. Make sure you are flying the divers down flag and that every one that is going on the boat knows the rules and regs for bay scallops. 2 gallons per person per day no more than 10 gallons per boat per day which ever is less. Make sure you watch out for other boaters and that your people are within 300 feet of the divers down flag on open waters.

Fishing is great right now, Trout action is very good in the deeper flats 6 to 10 feet on spotty bottom. A 1/4oz jig with a white gulp shrimp or new penny shrimp is working the best. Along with the trout we are catching some BIG sea bass up to 15 inches, flounders, sharks, blue fish, and a mackerel or two. Red fish are chewing good on live and dead bait, for live bait a pin fish and green back is the way to go. Dead bait you con not beat a fresh cut mullet chunk.

Book a trip I'm doing combo fishing and scalloping trips for up to 4 people for 6 hours give me a call for special rates, also stop into Precision Tackle to get all you fishing and scalloping needs.
