October Fishing Report!

 | By Seamus on 4/15/2013 2:30:18 AM | Views (167)

Well, this October has had great fishing and nice fishing conditions, you couldn't ask for more in my book! The target species for me have been: Redfish, Speckled Sea Trout, and Bull Reds. Now that the shrimp are thick in the creeks and we are rounding the end of the Mullet Run bait is plentiful and so are the Speckled Sea Trout. We have been catching them on floats with live mud minnows or live shrimp under them as bait, all kinds of artificials-grubs,topwater plugs, chuggers, subsurface mirrorlures, and also the fly. As long as the water has been fairly clear and moving the Trout have been there. I recently put a new trolling motor on my boat and man has it allowed for the production of some great fishing charters. The Redfish are still in pods and haven't started getting in their normal large winter schools we all get so excited about. "Gulp Alive," has been my bait of choice on a weedless hook. I can't tell you how many little buckets I have bought of this product. I prefer the three inch shrimp. We threw one next to a Tailing Redfish the other day and it landed 4 feet from him and he bulldogged it. It was awesome. The Tailing fish have been really productive and since the water hasn't cooled down to much they are still up in the grass feeding with those awesome "high five" tails that cause us all to get jumpy. The Bull Reds have been going off and everyone is catching them. These fish are all around 20-50lbs and provide the angler with a great light tackle fight. They are in the staging period before they go offshore to spawn. Looking forward to a great rest of Fall and a mild Winter, cheers! Captain Rawling Pratt-Thomas
