4-14-13 Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada

 | By Seamus on 4/12/2013 5:35:24 AM | Views (91)

There's been some great catches of fish the past few days during our Mid April Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing charters. A few boats have been venturing out in the gulf stream for mahi and some of the boats have been staying near the edge of the reef. April is one of those months where fishing changes day to day (as March and May are too), but whatever weather and sea condition gives you your best opportunity, well thats what you should do. The Mahi have been decent the past few days. Today the Relentless limited out as did the Redfish yesterday. Most of the other boats who went offshore caught a handful, but once everyone is catching a fair amount I will say that it's "good" for them. There has also been lots of big back breaking amberjacks around, with fish from 30 - 60 lbs. The black fin tunas have been non existent, but there has been a couple wahoo caught. The sailfish bite has picked up a little the last couple of days, the Stricly Business released two yesterday and the Reel McCoy released two today and the Predator released one. We are hoping for some east current to move in the next couple of days with this easterly wind. The spring time is when we get the "tailing" condition for sailfish and cobia, and although its hard to predict, the next few days it could happen. Lots of fish will surf down the waves into the current, some sticking the tips of the tails out. As far as the reef fishing there been lots of yellowtail snapper around, a few mutton snapper, and still a fair amount of king mackerel. There's also been a few permit around the wrecks near the reef the last few days as well. The cobia have thinned out a little, but the Fearless did have one a couple days ago and I would be suprised to see some more this week. The live bait has been a little tough lately, but hopefully it will become a little easier soon. The shark fishing in Islamorada has been great too lately, the Bn'M released a pair of tiger sharks two days ago, both in the 500 lb range. We also tried daytime swordfishing yesterday, and we had a couple bite, hooking one, but unfortunately we pulled the hook about 400' away. The swordfish bite should pick up in the next month or so I imagine. When you're ready for your islamorada fishing vacation give us a call and we'll set you up! 1 800 742 7945 !
