Fishing: Great

Boy, the river really has been active over the last few weeks!  September and October is a great time to fish the Metolius.  Continued warm days and cooler nights brings on a great mix of summer and fall hatches.  Over the next six weeks bug diversity goes through the roof!  Be aware and be prepared.  The hatch list is long and honestly, the successful fly fisher has some working knowledge of insects and identification skill.  We’ll be happy to help you out in any way…. Yes, the Fall Green Drake is hatching !! We have over 30 GD patterns!

The trout can be very selective and specific about flies so make sure you have a couple of patterns of each of these: Fall Green Drake, Golden Stone, PMD, BWO, Mahogany Dun, Caddis, October Caddis, Yellow Sally, Green Sally, Midges, some Hoppers / Ants.

Bull Trout: It’s a good time to chase these big char.  Look for them in deep pools, tail-outs, and under-cut banks.  Big streamers, stone nymphs, egg pattern.  7-wt rod minimum.
